Even a marriage outside of the church? Even if it's a Justice of the Peace making their union legal?

Wouldn't it be just a meaningless word then? Married, but not labeled as such.

Can we just make it clear here that the concept of "marriage" or a "civil union" is not a religious concept. It is a legal status, no more and no less. You can feel free to extend your concepts to it as you wish, but on a factual basis it has nothing to do with legal rights beyond that. Would there be an objection to two men entering into a limited partnership that assigned the rights of marriage to the other members of the partnership?
I'd love to see an actual argument that actually presents a counter to this notion, but to this point all I've ever seen is fear mongering.
Let's be clear, gay marriage will not effect you as a straight person in any conceivable way. You will not have to hold a man's hand.

I oppose gay marriage because I feel that it deteriorates the institution of marriage. I'm not a bigot. I don't really care what kind of love or sex people practise as long as they don't impose it on others or flaunt it. I have business associates who are gay. It matters not to me. Be gay, I don't care. Have a civil ceremony to celebrate your love, I don't care, but it shouldn't be a marriage.

Gay marriage in no way undermines your union. What does one couple getting married have to do with you?
And it is not the right of any sole or group of religious (or non-religious) people. It's a right all should share.
If you think it does undermine your union, then so does divorce, marrying for money, marrying for political aspirations, family arranged marriages, etc. etc. etc. As well as situations where people are trapped in marriages because they feel they have to keep their marriage together. Situations with abuse, neglect, etc.
If you truly believe gay people getting married undermines it, then you must yield that it was undermined a LONG time ago, probably since the day it was conceived.
Secondly, to all those people (Azure ) who say they don't care and use the excuse no one should care (government shouldn't be involved etc.), I agree with you in a perfect world. If no one cared form the beginning and the laws were equal, it would be fine. Everyone SHOULD stay out of each others business. I agree 100%
In a perfect world.
Unfortunately, the laws are still not equitible in many places, so those that don't mind, HAVE to care. At least until the laws are fair.

I personally do not believe we should have allowed interracial marriages. It undermined the traditional definition of marriage. And I think allowing black people to marry white people undermined the traditional definition of marriage. I have absolutely no facts or figures to back up my assertion, it's just a feeling that I have that mixed-race marriages have led to the downfall of western society. If blacks were not allowed to marry white people there would be less divorce today. I'm sure of it. And children would be raised better, and poverty would be solved and the world would be a utopia.
I'm not racist, and I'm not a bigot, I just think that the races should stick to themselves and that marriage should be reserved for the "right" people, of which, of course, I fall into.
The primary reason I'm against it is that the church, for many, many, many years was against mixed-race marriages.
From the judge of Loving v. Virginia:
"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races show that he did not intend for the races to mix."
And I mean, come on, the bible talks about Adam and Eve, not Jamal and Wendy. In all the pictures I have seen, Adam and Eve are both white, meaning that is the way God intended. He would not allow the failings of man to misinterpret his desires. So, clearly, if you don't want to rot in hell, you need to be against mixed-race marriage.

Sorry dude, yes you are.
A bigot is someone who is "obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. The correct use of the term requires the elements of intolerance, irrationality, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs." ( wikipedia)
Your statement, and by extension beliefs fit all the necessary criteria to make you a bigot.
1. You are devoted to your own opinions and prejudices. - You "don't want to get embroiled in an argument" indicating that you are obstinate in your opinion and refuse to listen to the other side. Your mind is made up.
2. Your opinions and prejudices are intolerant and irrational. - There are no rational arguments for opposing gay marriage, merely emotional ones and appeals to authority. Also, your opinion demonstrates an intolerance of people's differences.
3. They demonstrate animosity towards a specific group of people. - In addition to wanting to restrict the freedoms of a group of people, your statement indicates that somehow homosexuality "deteriorates" marriage, indicating that, in some way, homosexuality and by extension homosexuals are inferior because of their sexuality.
It's a free country, so you can have whatever opinion you want, but you should be aware that your opinion on this issue is bigoted and, by extension, you are a bigot.

How does pointing out that someone is being a bigot make you a bigot?

Telling someone that they are acting like a bigot isn't displaying intolerance. If he had said that people who don't support gay marriages should not be allowed to get married then you might have a point.
