He then uses the answers to the carefully-chosen questions as a means to support his argument, or to be the contrary to his argument.
His stands are indeed often ridiculous, but not hasty.

Oh, I totally agree he does this - he's the worst grandstander I've ever seen, but I've also witnessed plain ignorance on issues. But not as bad as other members on council (Linda Fox-Mellway, Ray Jones) who might as well be pylons.

Bunk, any thoughts on John Mar? I don't know much about him, but he did try to explain to me why apartments won't get city recycling for 10 years when I asked him about it at last year's Lilac Fest. Seems like he should be a guy I should like though.

Meh, Mar's ok, but certainly not one of the most effective Alderman. He's obsessed with policing and law and order issues, which is fine but he's not been particularly effective in other areas. Plays up his role as a swing voter on many issues in a highly divided council.
Zak Pashak - the guy who runs Sled Island Festival and owns Broken City is running against him. He's got some interesting ideas, but hard to say if he'd be effective as an Alderman. It would be hard to defeat Mar, he's got a lot of money behind him. In his election win in 2007 over Madeleine King he spent more than twice any candidate in an Aldermanic election has in election history.

I'll take the liberty of providing my thoughts even though you didn't ask for them. I generally like John Mar. I've met him a couple times and he's a really nice guy. He can be a bit wishy-washy on some things and doesn't always take a clear stand on certain issues. As for initiatives he brings to council, I'm probably about 75/25 as far as agree/disagree, which isn't bad. I don't think I'd like to see him as mayor, but he's certainly not bad as a rookie alderman.

For some of these candidates, I can't see much more than friends and family voting for them. I hope some drop out of the race.

Its funny, I'm somewhat conservative, and I'm hoping that you guys find a way to oust Rob Anders, especially his latest signing a card to the troops with the signature "When in doubt pull the trigger"
The guy is a jacka$$

Shouldn't the acronym actually be "CCAT Test"???
He says tha all his policies need to pass this test. Unfortunately he left out the most important element: Effectiveness.
So typically Ric. As long as it's cheap and the process is done correctly, it doesn't matter if the policy is actually the right one to solve a problem.

But the rest seems too focused on bashing the current way of doing things and doesn't really provide any concrete solutions. It's one thing to say "this isn't working", it's another to come up with idea's on how to solve the problem. I guess that's McIver for you though.

Alderman Ric McIver who billed $450 for drycleaning: “In a city of a million people, I’m not sure people want their representatives looking shabby”
LOL. I can't look shabby for my job either, but I can't bill my laundry expenses and drycleaning to my employer. Does he bill his shaving cream and extensive mustache grooming equipment to taxpayers as well?

Sandy Jenkins. Ran for mayor 3 years ago and came in third.

Chris is a friend of mine; I encourage Ward 1 residents to give him your vote; he's very passionate about politics and knows the issues quite well. And some young thinking and energy (compared to Dalesaurus) is just what City Council needs.

^Yeah I have to say I was a tad cautious about Chris Harper when I first saw some of his platform, but I'd now have to agree with your assessment.

He's running in Ward 13? Does he have a website?
I would definitely vote for him for alderman. IIRC I voted for him for mayor as he was the only guy that made sense in saying he would bury the 7ave LRT at the time as well. Maybe he could top our current alderman by staying awake during the police meetings as well...I know that is asking a lot, but not many people get paid to sleep on the job!
