I can guarantee you that if Rob Anders rode transit he'd push the elderly out of the way so he could sit down.

Everytime I take the train, I usually try and take the Window seat and sometimes I just stand by the doors. through I generally would let an elderly person take my seat if need be, but if I am carrying a heavy load throughout the long ride, I ain't budging my seat whatsoever.

This would be interesting as a poll
1. Men should always give up their seats to women, the elderly, and those with a identifiable conditions that requires them to avoid standing for long periods of time, and when asked to
2. Men should always give up their seats to the elderly and those with a identifiable conditions that requires them to avoid standing for long periods of time, and when asked to
3. Men should only give up their seats when asked to
4. Stay sitting
I think I covered all the options on this thread.
I'm more #2 myself

Like others have said, it's not what she did (asking for the seat) it's how she asked for it. She could have been a bit more polite about it and less like she just expected you to give up your seat.
I'm a female, and I think that it's nice to be a friendly, kind person to all those around you, rather than just chivalrous because it's a female.

I am going to make stickers and slap them on the backs of seats on CTrains (have never ridden in one, I assume there are seats based on this thread) and buses.
I'll do it guerrilla style, like those punk kids with their skateboard stickers.
My Stickers will say "If you have a penis, stand up and give a lady your seat, you weanus"

I'm in my mid-30s. I don't give up my seat to 40 year old men and I wouldn't give up my seat to a 40 year old woman. As the Flying Spaghetti Monster dictates, "samey-samey". The equality door swings both ways.
Now, I was thinking of this exact thing today before this thread appeared. I would rather stand at the back of the bus than sit at the front. I consider the front of the bus, the whole front half, priority seating. If you are in the front half of the bus, you should be ready to vacate your seat as soon as you see someone you think would need the seat more than you (regardless of sex). Or if someone asks for your seat. No questions asked. But if I'm in the very back, I'm gonna have my headphones in watching some "Third Watch" or some-such and you ain't getting my seat if you're 110 and dying from arthritis pain.

What about letting women be the first on and off the elevator?
Anyone bringing up women's rights and equality issues has completely missed the point. You do these things (giving up your seat, holding doors, etc.) because it's right, and courteous thing to do.

Judging by this thread, I am sure half this place muscles their way onto an elevator before woman and press the close door button. The whole way they are yelling "EQUALITY EQUALITY - SAMEY-SAMEY - SPAGHETTI MONSTER SAYS SAMEYS"
