Default Canadian Politicians Being Influenced and Controlled by China & Middle East: CSIS

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/...ying-csis.html

What do you guys thing about them publicly announcing it. it doesn't surprise me that they single out BC, as they have a very high number and concentration of recent immigrants. Likely the easiest place for foreign governments to begin this process.

In a separate article, Richard Fadden, the director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, makes specific mention of China and the Middle East. He also says Canada spends 50% of its CSIS budget on Chinese-focused operations.

I for one am not surprised that a few of these countries would try to gain politically influence through the back door. They, especially China, are very interested in our resources - Just look at their investments in our oilsands recently. It stands to reason they'd want some control against any potential future anti-China anti-Middle East ownership backlash, and the best way to do that is to control some puppet politicians.

I for one am happy CSIS is monitoring these sorts of things and think it was a smart move to come out with it publicly, before it becomes a huge problem. This way politicians know they're being watched and may think twice about taking some foreign dirty money.

I remember about ten years ago, my parents were considering doing business through their company with a chinese o&g company.

I remember pops coming home one day and laughing, because one of the things that came up in the negotiations was the chinese company wanting to "place" one of their employees in the company with access to proprietary information and software. Needless to say the negotiations pretty much ended right there.

It really isn't surprising that politicians might be influenced by some under the table propositions. Now all we need to do is get the American government to start monitoring the lobbying groups of the HMO's and Pharmaceutical companies to see if there are any "influences."

Just so we're clear - I am not a conspiracy theorist, I just found this article and the subject matter very interesting. I never really thought of it, but it's got to be pretty easy to buy a politician in Canada.

Add to that the fact that we have a large influx of new immigrants from a few specific contrines who tend to live in the same area, and you have a situation that is very easy for, say the Chinese gov't, to take advantage of.

1) Find good candidate in new Chinese immigrant population in Richmond, BC

2) Give guy training, grooming, money

3) Have him nominated for city council

4) use money to get his image out there with the large block of Chinese voters, who'll identify with him.

5) Have him progress through the ranks to a position of some influence within provincial politics.

it's not too far fetched and I am glad CSIS is watching this stuff, because I'm sure not!
