I'm pretty sure you can sync to any number of devices. The "rule of 5" is that you can only have your iTunes account active within 5 computer-based libraries.
I'm pretty sure of that, anyway. I know you'll be able to sync your stuff onto your second iPad though.

Check out Alice for the iPad, cool app. There's a free version:

Apple today announced that it has sold three million iPads in the 80 days since the device launched in the United States with Wi-Fi-only models on April 3rd.

3 million units in the first 80 days. It's only been 3 weeks since the last announcement of 2 million units, so demand is still going strong. In fact, I think it's picked up. It would be interesting to go back to the start of this thread and revisit some of the comments from people who swore up and down that this thing would be a complete failure.
Interesting, but pointless and far too time-consuming for my liking.
(Edit: And no, I still haven't bought one for myself.)

That would almost be as interesting as going to the iPhone HD thread when the photos of the new phone were first leaked and charting your approval of the new phone when you thought it was an Apple product, then how you slept on it and decided you didn't like it when you thought it wasn't an Apple product, to how you loved it again when it turned out it was, in fact, an Apple product.

Going back and looking at old opinions is a recipe to make this threat into a hot ball of burning argument, so my vote is that we don't do that!
People (myself very much included) tend to make a very common error of assuming that they represent the middle of the bell curve. When the iPad was originally announced the resounding opinion was that nobody wants a computer-ish thing without flash and without a usb port. The problem is that many assumed their opinion is shared by the majority. I can assure you, my mom is not overly bothered by a lack of flash.
I did the same thing with the wii. I stood on the hilltops preaching about how nobody wants to stand up to play their games or waggle a damn stick to make mario jump. Turns out I was slightly incorrect. I still think the wii blows and it's not for me, but I'm clearly not in the majority there.

For anyone that needs to defend a 6 month old opinion about a piece of tech to the bitter end to fit into their narrow world view that "_____ is the only good OS/company/program/device in the world and everything else sucks", it may cause some problems.** But so what? I would think that those people are a minority.
Example: It's always interesting at the end of the hockey season to go and review the predictions made in pre-season. Most people won't get butt hurt when it turns out their predictions were wrong.
Looking back at my prediction:
I didn't think the iPad would do nearly this well. For a few reasons that don't need rehashing, it's not an ideal device for me and I'm waiting to see what else is coming in the next year or two before jumping on the tablet bandwagon - if I do at all. I'm still surprised that 3 million people think they'll get $500-$850 (plus the cost of data plans and apps) worth of use out of it but to each their own; it isn't the first time and it won't be the last time that a large number of people jump on a tech craze/gizmo that I don't see the value in (example: twitter).

** This applies equally to fanboys and haters.

Hurry up! I still haven’t seen another one in the wild besides my own. I wonder if the vast majority of units sold spend all their time in the house...

^have to agree with phaneuf3. if we let it, it could actually be educational (scary thought...)
I predicted it will be huge/game-changing. Basically that it will create a demand for a new kind of device.
So far we're on track, but not there yet. Although if you look at the timeline for the iPod, it didn't start getting big until the 2nd or 3rd iteration. Remember the scroll wheel that wasn't actually a wheel? Clunky.
The fact that android will have copycat versions out soon does help my case though, and so far sales have been impressive.

I have only ever seen two others 'in the wild', so to speak ... one at another school, and my Dad's. In fact, when I took mine in to work one day, it was the first time any of my colleagues had a chance to play with one. Who is buying all of these and where are they!?

Did you find it useful as a go-between from your home computer and work computer?

See I've been wondering if this would be a good option between home and the classroom. But by the time I have my own classroom we'll probably be on the 7th generation iPod.

I think it would be really good - I know of at least one school in the CBE that's bought class sets of iPod Touches (Touch's??) for students to use in their classrooms ... it's just going to take a bit of time. CBE's making a big step forward next school year, "opening" their wireless networks to the students to connect using their own devices though they still have to log on.

I thought it would be cool as Numbers has a really nice attendance spreadsheet template for my wife when she's teaching. Apparently though the CBE has a program that the attendance needs to be entered into so it's kinda useless. That's great to hear about opening up the networks though ... my wife couldn't get her touch linked up as IT wouldn't let her.

Yeah, and the problem is, the attendance program they make us use has so many problems after a recent update that it may as well be useless. Oh well!

I have yet to see a single one outside of a store, but I don't really hang out at Starbucks or on public transit or anything.
I guess I'm not surprised that they can sell 3 million, between people who have to have every new thing, Apple enthusiasts, etc. I will be curious to see if tablets in general have staying power though, or if in 5 years if we're looking back at them the way we now think about PDAs or pagers.

I'm getting closer to buying one... I need to get my hands on a MacBook first though. Learning Objective-C is priority #1 right now.
I wish I could get OS X running on my Dell. Hell, even a VM that actually boots up would be nice.

I'd get used to object oriented programming first. Objective-C's syntax takes some getting used to.
