Default Very bad accident involving C-Train downtown

Tragic accident at the 3rd Street platform. I am guessing trains will be stopped for quite a while.

Traffic will be a mess as well.

What's going on? Did someone try to beat the train?

Way to leave us hanging, is it involving a car or a pedestrian?

CALGARY - Emergency crews are on the scene of a serious accident involving a child pedestrian and a Calgary C-Train in the downtown area.
Calgary Transit staff are on platforms along 7th Avenue redirecting C-Train users, trying to get them to their destinations.
More on this story as it becomes available

Sounds beyond awful already.

Police are investigating a serious incident on the LRT line downtown.
It happened at around 12:15 p.m.
Police were called out to check on the welfare of someone at 7 Avenue & 3 Street S.W.
All LRT and bus traffic is suspended on 7 Avenue downtown.

Can see the platform from here at Scotia Center...very disturbing, cops and paramedics everywhere. There is an orange tarp on the platform...very sad, very tragic.

We were having lunch in the breakroom when we heard all the sirens. Couldn't quite see where it was going. This is not cool.

From Global:

A child has been hit along a C-Train platform in downtown Calgary.
It happened shortly after noon on the downtown LRT platform on 7th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd street southwest. Police have closed down the platform.
Witnesses say the child has died.
“There’s no way he’s more than three, he’s small. It’s very evident that it was fatal. He wasn’t moving. We sat there for maybe 4 minutes; there were no police, no nothing yet. We tried to block people from coming any closer” says Stephanie Rich, a witness of the incident.
The status of the child has not yet been confirmed.
Police will be updating the situation early this afternoon.
More details to come ...

Just brutal. I could imagine it being traumatic for the driver and passengers as well.

Edit: I have a 3 year old, and this breaks my heart.

Would it really be that much of a burden financially to make these platforms a little safer? Maybe fence them up and have just the doors of the ctrain open? Maybe that's not the best idea, but I'm sure they can come up with something safer.
