This would depend on the score of the two final games. If Spain got blown out and the Swiss lost a close one the Swiss could advance.
If Chile ties, Chile still advances and Spain advances if the Swiss lose or tie. If Chile-Spain tie the Swiss have to win to advance.
If Chile loses, Spain qualifies for sure. If Spain beats Chile (which won't happen), Switzerland needs to beat Honduras by at least 3 to advance in second place.
Switzerland would only need to beat Honduras by 2.

I think this is actually how it works.

If Chile wins and the Swiss lose Spain and Switzerland would be tied in points and it would come down to goal differential (in that scenario Honduras could even advance)
If both games end in a draw Chile and Spain advance
If Spain wins and Switzerland wins than the Swiss would need to make up 3 goals on Chile in goal differential to advance, which really only means Spain or Switzerland would have to win by 2.

I wouldnt be averse to that. At the moment though, we're not doing too badly, despite the vicious complaints about the 'boring' first couple rounds of games, what its done is reduce the number of 'dead matches' in the third round.
Germany have to win, as do Spain and many others still need results while the only teams that have eliminated the (relative) importance of their third matches are Brazil, Argentina and Holland, groups C,D,F and H are still wide open.
Its going to be a fun week methinks. I understand the importance of playing the games simultaneously, but I hate that. I cant watch 4 games a day, its asking too much, and I dont like watching them on tape delay, theres something so much better about the live event, so you have to pick 2 and stick with them.
I'd rather the World Cup just last longer!

This is like a math lesson. Show your work!
If Spain beats Chile by one then Switzerland only needs to beat Honduras by 2 to knock Chile out OR even by one where the Swiss goals scored is two more than what Chile scored.
So if Chile loses 1-0 then if Swiss win 1-0 (then Chile advances on H2H because everything else is tied)
But if Chile loses 1-0 and Swiss win 2-1, the Swiss advance
Same with Chile losing 2-1 and swiss winning 3-2 and so on.
Got it?

One correction there (edit: in addition to the correction noted by Girlysports). If Spain loses by 3 and Swiss lose by 1, Swiss advance on GD. If the Swiss lose 2-1 and Spain loses 2-0, both teams would have identical GD and GS, and Swiss would advance on H2H tiebreaker.

Does head to head not matter? For example, if Spain-Chile tie and the Swiss tie would Switzerland not finish ahead of Spain?

Head to head does not matter until the 3rd tie-breaker.

I agree with you on the French and maybe Englad, but I'm curious as to why you want Spain out? They certainly have played the best football so far. Even in their loss against Switzerland.

Greece vs. Argentina, should be interesting to see how this game plays out as Greece need the points while Argentina really dont.
