Iceland passes gay marriage law in unanimous vote
Quote:
The Althingi parliament voted 49 to zero to change the wording of marriage legislation to include matrimony between "man and man, woman and woman," in addition to unions between men and women.
Iceland, a socially tolerant island nation of about 320,000 people, became the first country to elect an openly gay head of state in 2009 when Social Democrat Johanna Sigurdardottir became prime minister after being nominated by her party.
"The attitude in Iceland is fairly pragmatic," said Gunnar Helgi Kristinsson, a political scientist at the University of Iceland. "It (gay marriage) has not been a big issue in national politics -- it's not been controversial."

It is so weird how they elected a lesbian national leader before bringing in same-sex marriage.

I'm sure that Fred Phelps summoned that volcano in protest. It all makes sense now.

If you're against gay marriage in 2010 you really are an a-hole. I haven't met any exceptions to this rule.

My theory is a work in progress and doesn't account for such variances at this time.

Well is their really a big difference between a civil union and marriage? I not sure, was under the impression it wasn't, either way these things take time..eventually marriage will be offered to all types of human relationships.

Wow, way to generalize.
I guess in your books I must be an a-hole then - and you know what? I'm 100% OK with that.

There's a difference between "I don't care if they get married" and "I don't care if they make it legal"
If you're in the former group, you're not an a-hole. If you're in the latter, welcome to a-hole town.
But then, we all know who the mayor of a-hole town is.

I think what he means is that anyone this day and age that tries to logically deny people rights based on their sexual orientation is a dis pleasant and backwards fellow whom is likely rather unlikable.
But thats probably only because he has yet to hear a good reason to withhold rights of a section of society based on prejudice.
Or he's just being an A**hole, either way, high five!

I know a few gay guys who could probably make a claim for that position
I just booked a flight to Iceland, I'm very excited at the possibility of seeing a gay viking wedding.

Valo make sure you give us a update on the inspired by iceland thread when you get back, would love to hear how it goes.
I'm at the cabin right now but once I'm home I'll upload some pictures of Geysir, Gullfoss, river rafting and some mountain jeeps that I took a few days ago.

I'm in the camp of I don't give a crap.
And I believe nobody else should either. Not the government, not the law, nobody.
Marriage shouldn't be something that is controlled by the government.
