Germany is already through. Of course, if they beat Ghana. They have the best goal differential thanks to that 4-0 beatdown of Australia. If they beat Ghana, Ghana beats Australia tomorrow and then Serbia beats Australia, it's interesting that those three will have the same score of 2 wins and 1 loss. In that case, like I said, those 4 goals are all but guaranteeing Germany making it to the next round. So...don't worry.

Do you even think before responding? When has England ever looked good in an international tournament? I can't recall the last time they advanced past the quarterfinals.

1986: Quarter Finals: Hand of god
1990: Semi-finals: Pen shootout loss
1998: Round of 16: Pen shootout loss
2002: Quarter finals
2006: Quarter Finals: Pen shootout loss.

Not great but better than a lot of teams.

Incidentally in 1990 England drew their first two games and won unconvincingly in the third game. They went onto the semis that year.

Interesting that if ENG and SLO finish 2-2 and USA and ALG finish 0-0 the seocnd place finisher will be decided by a coin flip.

Ghana is no pushover.

Cheer up England fans! It could be worse...you could be France fans... imagine the depression of that nation.

Read the thread, nobody honestly thought England was a favorite. Unless of course you think the people who write headlines at The Sun speak for a nation. Carry on though, can't wait to see your cement mixers roll around in agony again next week.

France were terrible with no effort

England had effort outside of Rooney

not sure how much better I feel, only reason England may advance is a pants group

France fans didn't have the expectations that English fans did.

You mean two appearances in the finals in the last 12 years, one World Cup and one European Championship?

The commentator today said that England was the second favoured team to win this tournament (behind Brazil). I'm not sure where he got his info from, but that's what I was going on.

Touche... I was thinking more recently though. Like, you barely qualify, your national football icon is now a known world cheater, you draw against Uruguay, lose to Mexico and are now on the brink of elimination...
It's their own fault though, why didn't they sack Dominech I'll never know.

True, but they didn't expect to crash out in the group stages already, did they? Especially, when they were handed (relatively) easy-ish group.

They bring Charlize Theron back for that.

Maybe not, but again, if there's any team that shouldn't be going all Schadenfruede over France's success, or lack thereof, on the international stage, it's England.

No doubt. Not a real smart thing to say when you were likely the worst player on the pitch.

Then again I didn't think his "we don't have to be at our best to beat Algeria" comment was very smart either. It pissed the Algerians off to no end and they played their socks off today.

All credit to them, much less so for Wayne.

I sure do.

Using words like 'suck' and 'every' are bold assertions that surely must be backed up by empirical data. Unfortunately in this case your analysis fails the litmus test because not only have England won the World Cup, but made the semi-finals in 1990 and the semi-finals in the 1996 European Championships. While it is not a great pedigree, it is much better than the majority of football-playing nations. Hence my earlier comment about broad based generalizations.

And judging by the betting shops here, England's odds to win the World Cup were 9/1, behind Spain, Brazil and the Argies, which by my calculations would mean they were fourth favourites to win. But as my good friend rubecube pointed out yesterday, my math skills are poor at best.
