hmmm that must be from open play.
Germany have missed in shootouts before.

On a side note, someone should dig up the World Cup 2006 thread to see if we complained as much about the officiating then. It seems like the refereeing is a constant concern.

Glad to see England has come out lifeless in this match so far. Complete a freaking pass someone.

England has come out looking like Liverpool - a mid-table EPL team!

would have been interesting if Fat Frank scored that. He controlled it with his arm.

At least we're finally seeing some flow.

England looked flat out scared for the longest time. Gerrard having a mare so far. They are finally starting to get something going but this Algerian team is causing problems.

They are really ponderous. It's very tense out there. The weight of the world really seems to be on the England players shoulders.

Yeah, open play. I know Germany missed in shootouts. I don't know, I find it unlikely, but you never know...

What's wrong with England? They were 100x better during qualifiers...

Wow, Algeria even had more possession. Who'd have thought?

Very, very poor.

Not sure why Capello is choosing to live or die with his beloved 4-4-2. England need to improve drastically or they'll be on a flight home Thursday morning.

Will Capello change things up at the half? He'd better as they look dreadful out there.

I love Carragher to death but he simply scares me at this level. I'd be looking at Defoe instead of Heskey. Rooney looks lost out there.

Open play than that's probably true. Wouldn't surprised me if other countries had similar records since not many penalties are really called.

England guys! England suck at shootouts but I can't really remember England missing a penalty during the game in a World Cup.

they need to go to a 4-5-1 force Rooney to play striker

he wants to play every position by CB it looks like

Lennon needs to start making runs wide not cutting in

Gerrard and Lampard need to stop sucking, Keegan said at HT if your best player is Barry you are in trouble

we are in trouble
