The new crop are almost as good talent wise with Ribery, Malouda, Evra and Gourcoff. Problem is that they just don't seem to have any fight in them at all for the national team. When you watch Ribery play for Bayern the dropoff in his quality of play at the World Cup is hard to understand.

If any country should have the 'glass houses' rule applied to it, it's probably England.

They can if they beat South Africa and score more than 3 goals, and Mexico doesn't score and loses to Uruguay.

They can but it's unlikely. They would have to beat South Africa by about 3 or 4 and hope the other game isn't drawn.

They could have used Benzema in a game like this.

and Desailly, Thuram, Barthez, Trezeguet. But whatever, other countries go through dips too. At least France won on their upswing which is all you can hope for. I'll just cling to that since they probably won't even score at this World Cup.

yeah it was a treat to watch those players play (Trezeguet is my all time favorite striker, along with Bebeto), and now? 0 goals in two games and two very flat performances...

France still has a decent chance of reaching the KO stages. Mexico-Uruguay will probably be a lame draw and putting 4 past a terrible RSA side isn't a stretch.

I wouldnt call that a decent chance. As soon as your opportunties to advance become a math problem you've made some serious errors.

A Mex-Uru draw guarantees that both those two teams get through. France needs someone to win.

I sadly still think France go through, Mexico/Uruguay will probly play for the draw but Mexico may push a bit to try and get a win and avoid Argentina
all France would need to do is win by 2 (if Mexico lose) or 3 (if Uruguay lose) and they are through if the other game doesn't draw
