Yikes...it was a tongue in cheek article...not sure why anyone would be at all offended by it.

Hell I remember when he would write similar things about hockey...people freaked. It wasnt all serious stuff...just some observations even if they have been made by Jim Riome, doesnt mean those that read Reilly listen to the "have a take" master.

Reilly...11 time National Sportswriter of the year...but a hack if your a soccer fan??
It has nothing to do with the subject, and everything to do with him sucking. Not funny, not clever, not entertaining. To each their own, but I find him to be among the worst writers out there.

It was the right call. It's not an automatic red if the foul is in the crease, but if there is what can be deemed a direct attempt at goal (as was the case here) then it should be a red card everytime. Unfortuneate for South Africa, but they weren't going to get out of the opening round anyway.

Was it a foul? I don't see any contact, but I'm watching on a pretty poor feed.

If he was actually trying to trip the forward, I think he could have made a better attempt than that. He was pretty lucky to make contact with Suarez.

Penalty? Yes. Red card? Not a chance.

The foul is a red if it is the last man back I believe.

There was contact for sure. The keeper never touched the ball and he clipped the striker. You may argue that the striker embellished the fall a bit, but either way, it should have been a foul.

Yup, think of what would or wouldn't be a penalty shot in hockey. clear breakaway, clear chance on goal.

That's a red card.

That's a red card.

Is it because he was the last guy back or because he didnt get a piece of the ball...or a combination of both?

What part of "I find" do you not understand? "I" means "me", indicating that it is my personal opinion.

Is it really that complicated? I think he sucks. I don't think he's funny. I don't think he's entertaining. I don't think he's clever.

So un-bunch your panties, it's just MY opinion.

Of course you're right. Still feels harsh though.

It's my opinion too, Rick Reilly is overrated, unfunny, hot garbage.

Back to matters at hand. Uruguay stunning the host nation here. S.A. look done.

Have to beat the French without their first choice goalie. Tough job.

Suarez should get a red card for embellishing.
