It's payday and I'm strongly considering buying the 32gb model.. I have an iphone already. Is it worth getting the iPad in this case? Right now i'm dragging my 17" Toshiba laptop around the house when I could just be carrying a nice light ipad.
hmmm.
Also I fear a new iPad with a new screen, camera may be release in the near future.

If you're hauling a laptop around and don't like to I think you'd like an iPad.
There will be yearly updates much like there is with all the other apple products. If you can wait a year you may be happy, but personally I'd pull the trigger on one now and sell it in May of next year.

If you go to the iBook store and touch release date on the top, it indicates there are over 19000 books in the store. It'll be nice when they have new releases in there.

iBooks can dim the screen a lot more than the brightness setting in Settings can. It only works in that app though. Apple needs to open the ability for either apps to do that or better yet, give greater control in the Settings to allow for more dimming.
I read a book on the Kindle app last week and it would have been nice to have dimmed it more for when I was reading at night. It's a bit bright for my tastes even at the lowest brightness setting.
|
Well now. I recently got the Kobo HD app and it can dim the screen, seemingly, just as much as iBooks can. No idea why other apps, especially Kindle, haven't taken advantage of this.

Maybe I need to give my eyes more time to adjust to the night reading or something, because I find it really hard to read with it turned on. The solution to all of this though is to give greater control in the Settings for the screen brightness.

New security flaws in the iPad? Goatse Security says so. Seems like if this one is legit, it's Apple's fault this time around. This one caught my eye just cause of the AT&T mess a few days ago.
http://money.cnn.com/2010/06/14/tech...hack/index.htm
Quote:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A day after AT&T fessed up to its iPad 3G customers about a security breach, the hackers that exploited the vulnerability in AT&T's website said there are still lurking security problems related to the iPad.
In a blog post, hacker group Goatse Security said Monday that a "skilled attacker"
could take advantage of a weakness in the iPad's Safari Internet browser. The browser's bug could potentially allow someone to gain unwanted access to a user's iPad when that user clicks a malicious link.

A fair point and I agree with you but didn't Apple run a series of ads shelling Microsoft cause their software could do funky, unwanted stuff due to user error and macs would 'just work'?
Also, Goatse.

What is getting old? Goatse? Discussing Apple stories? Discussing stories about Apple flaws?
If anything happens remotely regarding Apple these days, it makes headlines. The positive gets discussed at length by the Apple fans here. The negatives? Not so much. Sorry if it seems like I'm bashing Apple but if I wanted more info on a headline that has Apple in a bad light, SOMEONE has to start the conversation. Mainstream reporting is pretty bad and often inaccurate when it comes to science and technology so I like to get a little perspective from the Apple enthusiasts.
For example, in discussing the AT&T flaw, I definitely found out more about the iPad and related services.

You could have just posted about the story itself, and everything would have been fine. It's the whole trying to disguise it as some harmless little post and then jumping at the first chance to ram some old commercials down someone's throat.
That's what's getting old.
Your Apple Thread M.O.:
1. Bait
2. Pounce
3. Cleverly disguise your intentions
Edit: I don't know. Maybe I'm on crack, and I'm reading too much into things. It just seems like you start with a "harmless" comment and then BAM! you nail the first guy that responds to it with the thing you really wanted to post about.

Yes. Someone hacked into AT&T's website and stole some email addresses. Now, they claim that they found a flaw in Safari on the iPad. A flaw. An un-named flaw. A whole flaw. I guess Apple doesn't have a leg to stand on now.

Well, on the other side of the fence, I come here with an interesting article about a reported flaw looking to discuss it. It gets responded to with a one line drive by post to try to defend their platform of choice while avoiding the topic at hand. IMO, turnabout is fair play.
And I agree, it's getting old. I'm in here to exchange information, not to try to start a OSX vs Windows vs Linux holy war.

I think you're right and people are reading too much into my intentions here. For example, in the previous discussion about the AT&T flaw, I came in posted the information I had and where I got it from. It didn't immediately devolve into a pissing match and you set me straight about some misinformation that I had picked up from poor reporting in the media. In the end, I walked away from that exchange with a more complete and accurate picture of the situation and the iPad in general. Unfortunately, that's the exception and not the rule.
I can see what you're saying about appearing to try to bait people but as I mentioned, there are more than enough people here echoing the positive headlines to get an Apple enthusiast's feelings on those. Few people are bringing the negative stories in here so every once in a while, I'll give it a shot to try to strike up an interesting discussion.

It's all good, I'm really not trying to be a prick here. Lord knows I bring more than enough crap into these threads myself.
I'm actually interested in discussing the security holes, device flaws etc. There's no such thing as a "Jesus Device" that's going to be everything to everyone.

I think the problem is you (and apparently others) are seeing that as bait and trying to turn it into a one liner pissing contest rather than a discussion about the information presented.
But criticism taken... if people try to turn it into that, I'm usually more than happy to respond in kind.

I'm so confused. Are you trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy here by trying to drag this out into another silly tangential argument about something unrelated and then call my original post bait?
