Adam Johnson would be doing a lot better on the left side than Milner and Wright-Phillips have been so far, oh and Darren Bent would have finished that chance that Heskey had saved. England hasn't really done anything so far that would make you say they deserve the 3 points, starting to look a bit better right now though.

The analysts on the tele over here were full of praise for Heskey's effort tonight, Gerrard as well.

King looked out of sorts. Milner didn't get much of a look. SWP wasted a few chances and if Aaron Lennon could finish England would be well-placed.

And thats why starting Heskey is a risk, he can't score, never has never will

and when he gets your best chances its going to hurt

Rooney needs to play better. If he can't shake off defenders like DeMerit than he won't have a chance against the top defenders in the tournament.

Rooney had no service, it was looking like he does for Man U when he needs to come back across half just to touch the ball

I dono if its a lack of Barry or what, don't like the quick winger in the left either, need more of a creative type like Gerrard (when Barry is back) or Joe Cole

Americans looked fairly good today, although their defence was horrible and they will get lit up by the better teams in the tournament I think.

As for England, they may have the worst wide midfielders in the tournament. Lennon was responsible for killing so many good scoring chances. His crosses were abysmal. Wright-Phillips looked like it was his first time every playing, and he absolutely blew that chance when he shot it right at Howard.

As for Green, the guy had two about two shots all game, one was the horrible goal, the other was a shot right at him that he barely handled and was lucky it hit the crossbar.

If I was an England supporter I would be very nervous.

SWP and Rob Green should be benched for the rest of the tournament. Green cost England a valuable 2 points.

I don't think King did himself any favors either.

All the guys on ITV were very pleased with Heskey and Gerrard above all else.

King pulled his groin, but prior to that spent a lot of time covering for Terry and Johnson. He wasn't great, but I thought he was at least qual to Terry, and miles ahead of Carragher. I'd rather see Upson or Dawson before Carragher gets another nod.

I don't get the Lennon hate, since he created about three different chances for England. He wasn't stellar, but outside of Gerrard, noone was.

Lennon was average, which was better than the rest of the team outside of Gerrard. Glen Johnson never game him the ball in good space and England never really had a chance to counter attack because the Americans were keeping 5 men back at all times outside of free kicks/corners

When he got the ball he got by his man and created chances, his delivery wasn't great but he got probly 4-5 corners and that low cross he hit near rooney should have been a goal

the only play I really fault him on was the chance in the first half, he has to shoot that unless there is a clear path for the pass

Realistically they played terrible and still deserved the win over what is arguably the 2nd best team in their group, just put Hart in net and move Gerrard to the left when Barry is fit for the next game

Heskey was good as well today for what he brings to the team, work rate and size being the two biggest factors, too bad he is a striker and one of those things he isn't good at is scoring goals. I have no problem with him starting because he does work hard and usually gives Rooney more space but when you need a goal you can't wait until the 80th minute to bring on a striker who can actually score one.

Heskey should have been subbed off around the 65th minute

Ok I thought CBC was bad

WOW! Can you imagine? What the heck are they thinking running an advert 4 minutes into the match? Couldn't they run adverts during their 10 hour pregame show!?

Someone going to get hanged.

Wow, you know things are bad when the Brits are begging to get ESPN soccer coverage.

Watching the game in NYC today with largely non-soccer fans it was pretty fun. I was hoping for the England win, but the absurdity of the US goal lead to lots of laughs, and the open bar til well after the final whistle meant I just woke up again. Love to complain about the result but had too much fun, and really that's the point.

I watched the ABC/ESPN feed today and thought it was brutal. How many slow-motion replays of nothing do you have to play? Really interrupted the flow of the game.
