Kelly has about zero upside... he struggled with the bigger forwards on Windsor. He's got no offensive upside in him.... I don't even know who you could compare him to... basically Sarich without the hitting ability or physical edge. Plus he's had concussion problems in the past... played last year with a full cage due to the concussions he's had... not a good investment for a 3 year entry level deal.
Actually perhaps more apt... a bit smaller version of Brett Palin.

I really disagree. I think he's got it in him to be a solid bottom 3 guy. He owned Kassian during that series and was a force along the boards throughout the playoffs. If Boullion, Wisnewski and Zanon can be NHLers, then Kelly definitely can too.

Listening to a Sutter interview, he said if Cameron was in the draft he'd be a 2nd round pick. Interesting to hear that they must rate him quite highly.

Nah, Sutter was just letting it be known that Cameron will be traded
...bah, it had to be said.

Then Sutter is either delusional or lying his ass off. He wasn't a 2nd round pick in his actual draft year let alone one 3 years later, and every NHL team declined to make him even a 7th round pick last year. I like his potential upside but a 2nd round pick that's just silly? If he'd have said 3rd or 4th I'd be able to buy that a little easier.
If he's gonna try to deflect criticism for the Flames lack of draft picks this year he could at least put some effort into it.

I have the same sentiment. If this is actually what Sutter believes, that's scary. Sometimes, I believe Sutter says things to make situations sound better than they actually are. This is one of those times. Unfortunately, some fans aren't as dumb out there as he'd like to believe.

BAH HUMBUG.
Gotta poop on any positive news you negative nancies.
This is a team that found Ryan Wilson as a free agent. We dealt him in the Leopold trade and he's played 61 games for the Colorado Avalanche.
This is a team that found Mark Giordano as a free agent. The negative nancies back then would have said he was garbage because nobody drafted him and thus didn't have NHL potential.
Richie Regehr is another free agent that we signed who played in the NHL.
The same year we found Giordano and Regehr we invited Wideman to camp and I think we gave him an offer too but he turned it down.
Our scouting of OHL free agents and overagers has been above average.
Is it really so hard to believe that Cameron could have some NHL potential?
So people are happy about signing a guy who's scored some goals and you turn it into a "sutter's a liar", "sutter's delusional" thread. Give it a rest. Bunch of drama queens.

Sutter is the one who opened his mouth about "2nd round". I am perfectly happy we signed Cameron and hope he turns into "something", but how is it being a "negative nancy" to call Darryl out on the 2nd round BS? It's not even a reflection on Cameron.

Ohhhhhhh 'kay there... and if Sutter had said "We think he's a potential NHL'er that's flown under the radar, we were pleased to get him without having to have used a draft pick" I'd have said "cool beans" but he didn't say that... he said that if this 21 year old overager who everyone declined to redraft was available to be drafted he'd be a top 60 pick, which is a laughable statement at best.
The only person who's being a Drama Queen is you.

We all like the signing because it is 0 risk and could pay off, but you are the one that ruins everything because you are hypersensitive to people with dissenting opinions. Is it really a strech to think that calling a 21 year old that ripped up the WHL a 2nd rounder hyperbole? If you're 21 and in the W you should be owning it.

First of all, Cameron was in the OHL, not the W.
Secondly, you don't rip up the CHL just because you are 21, you have to have skill to do that no matter what age you are.
Thirdly, so Sutter said he'd be a 2nd rounder if he was draft eligible this year. Who cares? Besides, Sutter knows alot more about hockey, draft picks etc, etc...than the lot of you combined.

Well you and a bunch of other posters like stating your opinions as fact and keep on repeating your slags over and over in the hope that others accept your opinions as fact with no proof and I guess you are having some success with the weak minded to the detriment of this board. Now if you had a link from another GM, scout etc., backing your opinion, it might be worth something, as it is, it just gets really tiring.

Hilarious, these posters are criticizing Sutter's opinion of a player they have never seen play, never mind even knowing where they played, so even if they wanted to see him, they'd get lost.

Life really is a bitch. Nobody said anything negative about Cameron. If Sutter didn't say anything, nobody would have said anything at all. I didn't say anything until FDW had a hissy fit. Blame Darryl for making a moronic statement. In fact, I don't even know if Darryl means it - maybe he is just having fun.

You see, it's just your opinion that Cameron isn't worth a 2nd rounder and to go around stating slurs of his opinion is over the top, especially without offering something to back your opinion up but as usual you offer nothing.

OK, do you think there is a single GM in the NHL who would actually use a 2nd round pick on a player who had passed through 2 (or is it 3) drafts? The burden of proof here is actually on Darryl, not on me.

Every team in the NHL passed on guys like Travis Zajac, David Perron, Trevor Lewis drafting them in the first round the following season. So yeah, that one year where a player breaks out can indeed make a team move and pick a player that high. Danny Syret was passed over twice and then eventually picked in the 2nd round too. It does happen.
There was some idiot who used a 3rd round pick on a guy who'd passed thru 5 NHL drafts back in 2004, that dummy was Ken Holland and the player was Johan Franzen.
Also not to mention he was drafted in 2007 and not signed. Remember Jarret Stoll, drafted, re-entered than drafted again in the 2nd round.

Obviously not when you can get the player for free but that isn't what Sutter is saying. He's saying signing this player is as good as having a second round draft choice. It's like signing Giordano when he was a free agent, he's turned out as good as any 2nd round pick we've had.
Look if you are going to argue the merits of this player at least read the article linked on the first post of this thread so you know the facts.
