That reminds me of running around Tall Tree's and seeing a cave up on one of the mountains. So I scaled the thing while being attacked by bears and when I finally reached the cave there was a pile of bones and a treasure chest inside. A treasure chest full of 15 bucks. Such a let down.
so for those that have finished it, what are your opinions on the ending?
***SPOILERS***
i knew something bad was gonna go down when i started doing the Marston farm missions, the game was too dark and gritty for it to have a happy ending. at first i thought the missions were to get you attached to John's wife and son, so when they died you really felt for him. but then i realized once i started doing Jack's missions (teaching him to shoot, hunt, skin animals, etc) i saw the ending coming. i like the way they executed the whole thing, though i just wish they had gone into more detail with getting revenge against the government agent instead of a small stranger task

After the build up to the finale, I hated the ending. I still think the ending is the one where your enemy falls from the cliff. The ending with the Marstons was silly and I don't want to herd more cows or teach my son to hunt.
I think like you said, revenge against the government with Jack could have been pretty cool rather than the one stranger mission. It would have been a better way IMO to end the game, like say 15 missions trying to find the guy, then the last mission is that final stranger missions.
During the Farm missions, I was like, "Um WTF?" But then I got it. Why I did them. Still think it was a pretty cool ending. Although, if I hadn't randomly ridden to Blackwater right away, I might have been annoyed.

Can someone remind me when the last time yahtzee *hasn't* hated a game was? I like his reviews for the entertainment value but if you only buy games he likes I think your entire collection would be HL2 and Saints Row 2

ya I think stock came in today as after posting I checked stock and a few stores had it so I ran out and grabbed a copy... still I was a little surprised it was so hard to find earlier this week...
Just watching that trailer posted by HemiCuda has made me want to play it. My son got it for his birthday 2 weeks ago and I think I need to try it now.

The part at 3:05 is pretty cool, and gruesome.
How old is your son?
There's lots of swearing and at least one scene of nudity.
Rockstar released two expansions for GTA4, and could easily do the same for this. Coupled with the game selling 5 million copies so far, it wouldn't be crazy to say Rockstar will do this.
