Not everybody has had your experiences. It's too bad you have.
I honestly have flew with them at least 70-100 times. I pick them b/c they are always the cheapest. I've flown first class very few times when I wanted luxury with Air Canada. I don't expect luxury with West Jet.
There's no competition up here in Canada. The prices are high, but it's all I got for options.
My flights all arrived within 5 minutes or early at least 95% of the time.

Nissan because of the way they tried to acquire Nissan.com (the website address). I get companies wanting to protect their on-line presence etc, but in this case the guy who had Nissan.com was named... Nissan. He had a computer company and had that website for years and years before Nissan decided they should have it, so they sued his ass. Sons-a-bitches.
Anway, I support Walmart specifically because of their anti-union stance. Not a huge fan of all of their business practices, but I fully support their desire to not be a union shop. I don't buy produce there though, but not because of some political statement - just because it sucks. I'd rather go the extra block to Sobey's and get quality produce and pay a few cents extra.
As someone else stated, I also have not bought a single Leer Jet, so they are on my list as well I guess.

There's always going to be someone pissed of with pretty much any company out there. That being said, Air Canada may not be the best airliner, but compared to many American regional flights, Air Canada is much better than most.

I get this on every board when I dare to criticize the WJ sacred cow. No, I do not work for AC, but I can say that AC is far, far from perfect but it beats the pants off every other North American carrier. WJ is terrible and I hate the slavish fandom it has managed to build, but WJ is so much better than United or American, for tourist class at least. American carriers are simply the worst in the world.

Well you are in the minority. Here's is WestJet's on-time performance for 2009 and 2008.
Air Canada's on-time performance wasn't in their 2009 Annual Information Form. I did find this online, but I'm not sure how accurate it is or if it's even telling the full story, but it's a pretty bad level of performance if true.
Also, if you go to the on-time performance section of Air Canada's website, you'll notice they compare themselves against a whole bunch of other carriers. Not WestJet, though. Wonder what's up with that?

lol wut? The pilots that fly for WestJet have the same qualifications as pilots for any other Canadian airline. Plus half them are probably former Canadian Airlines pilots, anyway.

Loyalty programs are expensive to administer, but WestJet offers Air Miles through its BMO card and you can also redeem Air Miles through WestJet so not sure what more you would want. This strategy helps keep their prices lower across the board.

You really don't understand their business model, do you? You can fit more people in a plane by not having multiple classes. That means each plane has the opportunity to generate more revenue on each and every flight. There are also less parts to stock (for seats, etc.) which helps keep costs down (like flying an all-737 fleet). That's good for the business, the shareholders and the public as well because it helps keep flights affordable.

This is the first I've heard of this. Are you suggesting WestJet has a higher number of incidents per flight than other carriers? If so, proof please.

I don't believe this for a second, but I'll let you prove it if you want. These numbers are readily availalbe online. I'm certain you are wrong, however, but don't want to bother looking it up.

Yes heaven forbid a company makes a wise financial decision (it's true the leather lasts longer and is easier to clean) that also happens to look appealling. I also happen to like clean, non-worn seats. What about you?
Also, on what planet is leather not nice? Find me one luxury car that does not offer leather. It's a "luxury" standard in the transportation industry.

Is there something else you meant by that?

I like Westjet, but depending on the type of equipment AC is operating on a route I'm looking at I will probably go with them instead. Westjet's 737's can't hold a candle to the Air Canada Embraer 190's on domestic flights.
WJ live TV is great if you are flying during primetime or during a big sporting event (Olympics, World Cup, etc) but if you are on a flight during the day you are usually stuck with soap operas and endless sports highlights. I'll take AC's AVOD system over that any day of the week.
Long story short, Westjet is pretty good and enjoying great success, but Air Canada is gaining ground on them again in the domestic market.
Edit: Both Air Canada and Westjet are miles ahead of the crap you get in the states though. We don't know just how good we have it sometimes!

Really, I've taken Westjet several dozen times and they're usually on time or within 10 minutes of being on time. Obviously that's not always the case, but s--t happens. Air Canada was rather less accurate. Maybe they're better now (as well as their service in general) but I honestly haven't taken one of their flights in 6-7 years.
And after reading this post, I realized I forgot to collect air miles on my flight next week. Oops.
I've flown a lot of US carriers and I do agree that both AC and WJ are better, though. United = crap. Delta used to overbook us all the damn time. I did like Alaska Airlines though, good prices and food choices... though again it's been years.

I love Air Canada.
The Westjet staff are too freaking happy.
Leave me the eff alone, I am on the 6AM flight to Fort Mac. I am miserable, I don't want to be patronized by some sing song rendition of the effing seatbelt announcement.
I will take my bitchy Air Canada flight attendants any day over one of the rhyming renditions of the safety rules I had on WestJet one day.
I will fly Air Canada over Westjet 100% of the time, all of my coworkers are the same as well.

I've never had any problems with Air Canada before. I just stuck with West Jet because I used to fly a lot during University and was looking for the best rate. It's been very rare that I have found Air Canada to be cheaper. Ever.
The one or two times it has been, I'd just book WJ for one way and Ac for the other.

My face is a bum!
|
My favorite is how "on time" statistics are total garbage now as every carrier puts a longer flight duration so that if nothing goes wrong they'll be early every time.

I used to have a number of boycotts; however as I have gotten older I have come to the realization that the Telus' of the world are not going to close up shop if they lose my business, so I only boycott as long as it does not significantly affect me financially.
Currently WestJet is on that list for me; because on my last 4 flights their live TVs have been out of order. The clincher there was on the last flight I was early and heard similar announcements for other departures; and then when I emailed customer service I did not receive a response back. Since that time I have flown Air Canada a couple of times without any major issues. The one minor issue was dealt with immediately by them.
I think the days of WestJet being cheaper are gone; every time I look for fares online both AC and WJ seem to be the same; often down to the penny.

Well thats just a dumb sales consultant. They should have asked you what your budget was...than tried to sell you a ring that was just slightly out of your price range, and why you want it.
My issue with this company was about the wedding bands. I went in and ordered them 8 weeks in advance knowing it would take about 4 for them to show up in the store. I pay the deposit, order the bands and hear nothing. Two weeks before the wedding I phone them. 3 days later buddy calls me back and they didn't process the order yet and can't get them by our wedding date. So I'm left scrambling to try and find bands for my wife and I, and had to spend more money because of the urgency this mess up caused. To pour salt in the wound...I had to drive from Sylvan Lake to Edmonton to get the deposit credited back on my credit card. So essentially I had to hand them my money for 4 months and got nothing for it and incurr expenses to get it back. Thats a shop local commercial if there ever was one.
I guess for a company who specialize in engagement rings this doesn't affect them as people should only buy those once in their life. So if they fata you on the wedding bands it is your problem. But anyone whoever asks me about my experience with them...I'll tell them how I wish I would have done my ring shopping, and it doesn't involve buying it from them.

In regards to the WJ TV outages, I was told from someone iat WJ that one of their installers was installing the TV sets incorrectly causing overheating issues with the wiring, so basically they turned off the entertainment system on all the planes this guy worked on until they could be refitted, yep sucks especially for long flights but I'd rather be safe, no? Apparently it was going to take upwards of a year for all those planes affected.
As for me I fly both WJ and AC depending solely on whose cheaper and/or has direct flights, which with a couple exceptions has been WJ. *cough* CPers go to Spain*cough*

I should find the name of my ring guy. My wife's older sister recommended it because her husband got hers from there. It's in Downtown Vancouver for anybody there. They make the ring after you customize the whole thing.
I got my wife's ring for $12 000 CDN 2.5 years ago and I've had it appraised a few times and they have appraised it at $21 000 - $22 000
It came with the band as well

Was it The Brinkhaus? That is where I got my wife her engagment ring and our bands. I didn't spend quite that much though!
They have a location in Calgary (a little house in the middle of downtown) and Vancouver I believe.
