Calgary Road Rage
It's Friday, and this is sure to spark a little debate.
Young kids attempt an illegal u-turn. 60yr old comes up behind them, leans on the horn, then for good measure gives them a bump. Young kids get out of car, old guy grabs a hammer, melee ensues.

It's interesting that no charges were laid either way.

A rock hammer? It sounds like the elderly gentleman is someone who knows how to get . . . things.

Some of these old buggers are crazy. I've had at least 5 cases with a 60+ driver intentionally ramming other vehicles because they were in a hurry...

The 60yr old made the first big mistake by bumping him. He's looks like the one mostly to blame.

The old guy started it, I would think at 60 yrs. old he would have a better grip on his temper.
Road rage or any uncontrolled anger like that really is just immaturity.

Old guy starts it, three punks think they can intimidate him via strength in numbers, fight breaks out with weapons.
Four idiots meet at an intersection...

"Tackle and disarm" versus "kicking the living daylights out of him."
Two very different accounts of the event. Keep up the quality journalism, Calgary Sun!

That's true too, I had an old guy smack his cane on the hood of my GF's car because I stopped in the cross walk, and another guy hold his cane out like Moses parting the Red Sea and stepped off the curb into busy traffic.

Both parties were in the wrong here, but I can definitely say that I'd incredibly pissed off if someone intentionally bumped me and my car.

Some old people think they are entitled to act the way they want, just because they're old.

I think it's good that neither party pressed charges. Recognizing it was just dumb and shouldn't have happened. all good. Imagine if this was the U.S., with it being their right to bear arms, this could have ended qutie a bit differently, good ol' shoot out at the intersection right out of Tombstone.

I find it funny that road rage incidents always seems to follow the same pattern.
1. 1st driver does something incredibly stupid/rude.
2. 2nd driver lays on the horn (or in some cases, slightly more than that!)
3. 1st driver freaks out, having been called out for stupidity/rudeness.
4. Big dick contest ensues and everyone loses.
Calgary has got to be (one of) the worst cities in North America for driving. I see constant stupidity/rudeness, followed by the inability of others to 'just let it go'.

Disagree.
I don't see what the 20 year olds did that was that dumb. Basically all U-turns are illegal, but you still have to make them from time to time. If some guy hit my car just because he was upset at my minor traffic violation, damn right I'd get out. And if he was about to use a hammer on me I hope my friends would back me up and kick his ass (but they probably wouldn't ).

Who bumps someone else's car?
If some old geezer bumped my car he would not like the outcome.

You and I are looking at this so differently.
1. 1st driver does a u-turn. BFD. It's not like he cut the other guy off to be a loser intentionally. He was going the wrong way and had to turn around!
2. 2nd driver lays on the horn - whatever, that's fine. But then he rams the first guy. That's a total over reaction and borderline psycho.
3. 1st driver gets out of his car because he's just been rear-ended. I've never seen an accident where people didn't get out to look at the damage and exchange information. In fact, don't you have to do that? It's illegal to leave the scene of an accident.
4. 2nd driver that was the freak pulls out a hammer. That's nucking futs.

Dumb place to attempt a u-turn but look on google maps... there's 2 lanes each way. The old man could have avoided all this just by SWITCHING LANES and going around them.
