See my post above - it's coming. All those punk driving giant lawnmowers are about to feel the wrath of Bronco/Kent Hehr.
I don't mind slightly louder performance exhaust if its within reason. But throwing a fart can on a 90hp civic doesnt accomplish anything. Drilling in a hole in the muffler of a truck or car doesnt accomplish anything. Its one thing to reasonably modify your car for performance. Its another to modify it for noise. I hope they implement the noise cameras.

I don't ride, but isn't one of the purposes of a loud motorcycle to give cars a warning that there is indeed a motorcycle around?
People don't shoulder check enough as it is, and if you can't hear the thing in your car, i'm willing to bet motorcycle accidents go up.
That's the argument many in the community make.
One of the bikes sites I frequent had the results of a "Noisy bikes save lives" type study last season. I don't recall the numbers, but I do recall that they blew the theory outta the water. Pretty sure it was vfrworld that had the story?
Yup. They have made a difference for me on several occasions. Of course, I won't mention the dozens of times it made absolutely no difference whatsoever.
The revisions to the Traffic Bylaw say:
(y.1) “objectionable noise” means any sound caused by or emanating from a motor vehicle that annoys or disturbs humans or endangers the health and safety of humans and includes:
...
(vii) noise measured at 96 decibels (dBA) or more as measured by a sound pressure level meter at any point of reception
I like the idea, but 96 dB at the pipes is not 96 dB on the sidewalk, apartment or restaurant patio. If the Noise Snare sets up in an on-street parking spot, it makes a huge difference whether you're in the curb lane or the next lane over. It would have been better to specify 96 dB at a minimum distance of x.
All I can say is that the government had better wise up and realize that loud pipes, they save lives.......bulls testicles from diesels, they save lives as well.........loud pipes on diesels, yes, they save lives as well.....heck if we all got loud pipes we put doctors outta business, and the government does not want that, so instead, no loud pipes for anyone. There will be thousands of unemployed guys from the loud pipe factory.......

They did. 96 dB at a minimum distance of 0.
Your way gives people the right to be as loud as they want provided they are within the minimum distance, which is not a smart thing to do. Measuring at any point of reception is by far the way to go.
I'm sure they will enforce this new law like gang busters during the first week (just like the distracted driving law) and then forget all about it.
I see distracted drivers every single day, typically 5-15 daily.
It's so true. Even the other day a cop drove up beside me while I was blabbing away on my phone, and I panicked and threw it down on the seat. The cop just laughed and kept driving.
