These pictures were taken in Wellington, KS where my Mom and sister live, about 30 miles south of my house. They were taken in front of the local watering hole and as you can see some patrons were more interested in watching than seeking shelter. This happened Friday evening, August 27.
The tornado actually skirted the southern edge of town and damaged only 2 homes but took out some power lines. No injuries. The strange thing is that it was on the ground for around 30 minutes but covered only a mile or so of ground.
It looks much more impressive than it really was as it was announced today that it was an F2 on the Fujita scale.
Fujita scale..great information here if you are interested
My Mom and sister both live about 1/4 mile north of where the pictures were taken from on the same street....which is in the opposite direction of where the tornado is.

Sorry for the annoying links...took me forever to find a way to host the pictures and for some reason the board won't let me use the IMG tag with these.
