Yep, 2 goalies, and 16 players.

5 on 5, with 3 and 3 subs each.

I'd hate to turn people away who wanted to come join, but I'm thinking we should make 22 confirmed players the absolute maximum.

22 would mean 5 on 5 with 5 subs each. Any more than that and people are forced to wait for a turn to play more than they are actually able to play.

Maybe it should even be 20.

Any thoughts?

I know city run shinny has a cap of exactly what you suggested 22 players and 2 goaltenders, however this is even too much sometimes, with everyone skating long shifts etc, I personally think 20 is great, some people might be a bit late, or leave a bit early, but for a 1.5-2 hour game 10 vs. 10 plus goalies is beauty.

I guess it depends on the group. When we play, we usually just have 12 players (one sub per side) and 2 goalies, and guys usually aren't happy if more than that shows up. But we also like to be playing almost the whole time, with maybe a couple little breaks on the sidelines.

It's the same thing with friday night shinny (on ice). When you're playing a non-league game with no refs or timekeepers, whether it's road hockey or ice hockey, I find most guys just don't want to come out if they're going to be watching from the sidelines for half the time. They just want to be out there playing.

Ok, so we'll allow 2 more players max to join thursday's game.

It sucks to turn people away, but if you have anymore players you end up watching more than playing.

Often peeps don't show up anyway though. I bet we don't get 22 even if they sign up.

I think 18-20 would be a reasonable cut off. Like you said any more players and you hardly get any playing time.

I actually think 18 should be the cut off(not because i was 18th on the list either lol)

5 on 5 with 3 subs is perfect.

I was considering that as well, but as arloiginla said, it seems to take a while for everyone to arrive, and by then some may have left already.

I'd be pretty surprised if all 18 of us showed up at 6 to start Thursday.

Last week we had people arriving in the last half hour still, and 3 people had to leave early.
