OK guys, the question was if there are different prices between registries. Seeing as this thread is going downhill quickly, please let's keep replies on topic.

We got our Marriage licence at Marda Loop registries.... i would only recommend going there if you like to wait around for an hour in a place with no A/C .

I called around to a few places and found it was pretty much the same price. Around 80bucks.

Not sure if you can still do this or if the price has changed but if you have a close friend who is up for it, he can apply for a temp JOP license which allows him to marry you and your fiance at a specific time and specific place in Alberta for $50.

So between a license and a JOP I don't think you'll find cheaper.

Can't do that anymore. It has to be a government of Alberta registered marriage commissioner.

I heard they were having trouble with the "internet" JoP's not completing the paperwork properly and there were a bunch of void marriages as a result.

There is a min/max that every registry can charge. Stick with the bigger registries, they usually charge a bit less. Some registries require a appointment as well, so keep that in mind.

Seems to me when we got married back in'99 AMA was quite a bit cheaper than others, but you had to be a member. Since we were going on a road trip honeymoon it worked out okay.

BTW, my wife thinks frugal is the shiz... We totally shopped for a cheap marriage licence!!

I don't believe that AMA charges any extra fees (other than your annual membership, of course) for any registry services, so they should be the cheapest if you're a member.
