It's basicly just human plumbing 101.
What are you trying to "clean" out of your intestine? Like I stated above, there is absolutely no available scientific data to support this. Furthermore, what is the benefit of a "more efficient" digestive system. A regular, high fibre diet will help regulate a person's bowel movements but the actual gastrointestinal benefits of this are trivial. The real benefit from a high fibre diet is in the lipid profile, specifically the triglycerides.

Not to be a jerk, but out of curiosity... how many of you are doctors? I just want to know who I should really be lending some credence to.

I've often thought about cleansing, but I've never actually talked to a real doctor about it. There is lots of internet rhetoric on either side, but some actual medical advice from someone I'm familiar with would be interesting.

Edit: Mind you, I probably shouldn't even ask. I can't imagine a real doctor wanting to give out medical advice on a public forum, out of fear of legal ramifications.
Add: It's really just that people on both sides are pretty convincing. Probably the only way to really know is to try it and see what happens. Mind you, if I think it will work, then my mind will probably tell me it did - and vice versa.

BTW, never heard someone refer to poop as a toxin before!
Well, most "toxins" (usually mineral imbalances and waste chemicals) go out when you do #1.

What's left over is clumped up with undigested fibres and big clumps of dead blood cells when you do #2

You have a remarkably efficient detox machine that's been honed and perfected over the course of millions of years of evolution. Oh yeah, it's called your digestive system.

I'm not a doctor but I took a fair share of University bio and physiology courses. Besides - regarding nutrition, everyone who really cares and looks into diet is a decent expert because it's all really quite simple and health is big issue that applies to everybody.

Hmm. That's a lot more than I've studied on the subject.

So that old chestnut about 8 glasses of water a day is still the way to go?

The fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is chock full of antioxidants and omega-3 oils! Also tastes delicious to women causing the fall of mankind.

That's sort of an old wives tale but it probably does more good than harm.

Follow your thirst. I read somewhere that the better benchmark is to drink enough to urinate at least 3-4 times a day. Drink enough to make sure your urine is a light yellow color too and not too dark. Darker urine means dehydration because of the concentration of water is lower.

Heres the real secret:

Me, I prefer to keep my body in a constant state of alert, its important to keep applying additives that ensure that no bacteria can live in your body.

To this end, I apply a consistent stream of scotch, rye, beer, more scotch, maintain the beer, add some painkillers because by this point you'll need 'em, more scotch, some beer and then whatever you find in the medicine cabinet.

This approach makes it impossible for anything to survive in your body.

Including you! But only sometimes.

The real key point I've taken out of all of this is that women caused the fall of mankind.

Exercise, drink water, sleep well. Live a balanced life and have a beer every now and then....life is all about balance.

I like the way you explained that.

Ever think of running for mayor?

Seriously though, there's lots of undesirables that "stick" to the colon walls that are hard to get rid of threw a normal diet.

Personally, I think it all started with that crazy rib deal. How the hell did we ever agree to that?

I forgot about the corn that magically always appears with #2 whether you had eaten corn or not

AFAIK, almost all digestion happens in your small intestine and not the colon. Your small intestine is lined with villi to do this. Your colon has no villi because its main job isn’t digestion but to reclaim water. The colon is lined with a heavy non-stick mucous lining and cells that fall away every couple days taking everything with it. It's almost impossible for anything to get stuck to your colon walls. If something actually gets stuck there, it's probably time to see your Doctor for an x-ray & surgery and not a laxative.

What the Bible doesn't tell you is that God took out man's McRib. That's why McDonald's only brings it back during special occasions. This is really a religious celebration to reclaim our lost manhood.

Something along the lines of I will make you a companion that smells good, that you want to hump all day long, but the only catch is she will be bossy as hell.

Either that or evolution happened over the course of several million years. I always thought we had more in common with chimps than a random rib...

The best thing you can do for your health is exercise and a healthy diet. Everything else will follow suit.

Well, you may want to start by cleaning out your primary filtration system then (i.e. your liver).

Save your money and stay clear of a full detox kit. Head down to Shopper's, pick up a small bottle of milk thistle in the health food section. Take dosage as recommended, and up it slightly if you feel no improvement over a couple of days.

It should only cost you about $15. Whether it will do anything for you I've no idea - the only evidence I have that it works is anecdotal.
