Just read online

Talking with IncGamers, Blizzard's VP of game design Frank Pearce has revealed that the only way to play Starcraft II in multiplayer will be through the company's Battle.net service online. According to the site, a rumour had circulated stating that players could at least "connect to Battle.net and then start a limited LAN," however Pearce confirmed:
There is NO LAN. Kind of ######ed... that's pretty much the only reason why I play SC

Really? That sucks. I won't even play it as I suck at SC games, but I know a lot of people play LAN games. Kind of restricts their users.

I thought you were excited about it and wanted to play with other CP members?

The reason LAN is omitted is that LAN was the usual way pirated games were played with each other through external clients or cracked servers.

There is no reason why people in a room still cannot play with each other. They will just have to be logged into Battlenet and connect to each other through a channel.

With LAN it's nice to just play if we're at someone's house with unreliable internet, or at school. I've tried doing the whole BNET thing online with alot of people and it takes a really, really long time to set up a game. Then you have the problems of lag or even dropping. Huge PITA

aww i'm gunna miss the beta when it is gone.
will have nothing to do with all my spare time, but i might get a better night's sleep

3 justin 3, i wouldn't worry too much about being bad at SC/RTS games. you'll probably get put in the lower leagues, but so what? at least you won't get owned by the pros. its all fun right?

in other news. lately i've been playing 3v3's where i move my base to high yield and mass marines (4 rax w/ reactors). if i don't get spotted and am able to get production running smoothly it's mayhem for the other team!

Actually, according to Wiki (cited from the battle.net forums), the first phase of the beta has been extended to June 7th.

It will also be returning for a couple weeks before release.

If not sooner.

The extension isn't guaranteed, but is likely.

Sunstreaker is my sign in for anyone interested.

Latest patch has been released and while I do not believe battle.net is up and running, it should be within hours hopefully.

I've got the patch downloaded but the servers aren't up yet.

I have to work ONE DAY in all of July, and that's the one they pick to re-launch the beta? I have incredibly bad luck Servers better be up when I get home post-midnight.

With the Beta getting an extension does this mean the release date is delayed?

No. The plan was always to have the beta re-released a couple weeks before the release date. Starcraft 2 will still be out on July 27th
