Vancouver Resturaunts
Just looking for some ideas for a nice resturaunt in Vancouver. Preferably down town or in West Van. No strictly seafood places, and not to crazy on the price. Just a good place to go on a date. I have a few ideas from google, but just want to know what people like or reccomend.

Goldfish or Blue Water Cafe in Yaletown. Might be pricey depending on your idea of pricey. Decent selection and cool atmosphere for both places.
Joe Fortes on Robson is pretty good two. Same guys that run Goldfish.
Las margaritas on West 4th is a great Mexican place.
I should add Cardero's on the water front as well...
Stay away from the Keg in Yaletown. Nice cool big building but the quality of food and service is borderline criminal...
Cin Cin on Thurlow is pretty great, Italian.
Gotham Steak House on Seymour.
Kobe's Japanese Steak House
The the Irish Heather down in Gastown for more of a pub fare and they have an awesome selection of whisky
There is also your Milestones, Cactus Club places around as well.

The new chef is Daniel Boulud so I can't see it being a step down from Rob Feenie at all.

The Keg Ceasars on Hornby has always been good to me though.
Gotham's is nice but be prepared for $220+ with wine. I don't think they have a dress code, per se, but I wouldn't feel comfortable in jeans.
Hy's steakhouse on...Thurlow?...is a step above the Keg, a step below Gothams. There is also the Player's Chophouse near BC Place stadium that was good, although when we went there it was very slow and missing some atmosphere.
And I also like Jagger's on Pender - small and cozy bar/pub that has always had great food, but more restaurant fare than pub. And as you probably guessed they specialize in Jaggermeister drinks, if you're into that sort of thing
Two more recommendations - Steamworks on Cordova St. has always been very popular (and busy). It's a brewery/restaurant and they have a wide variety of food. They also operate "The Continental" out of the old train station building a block away - only been there once but it was great.

Great suggestions above. If you're looking for something a little less pricey, I have a couple reccomendations.
Incendio's-In Gastown and one on 5th and Burrard. Great Pizza and Pasta
Marcello's-Not downtown, but on Commercial Drive-Maybe the best Gnocchi outside of my grandmothers
Stella's-Just a great atmosphere, laid back, casual, with quality pub food. The burger their is amazing
Los Margaritas in Kits is amazing if you like Mexican Food
Senor Roosters on Renfrew for some solid Portuguese cuisine
Trocadero's on Nanaimo and Brodway-My dad used to go there as a kid, I'm going there now, great Greek food and their pizza is solid as well

White Spot - Triple O Burger.
Topanga Cafe was always lined-up in the early 1990s:
http://www.topangacafe.com/index.html
And my local bar back then, The Fringe Cafe:
http://www.fringecafe.ca/
It's a 48-seat cafe/pub in the heart of kitsilano, bc, that has been a regular hangout for thinkers, artists, musicians, tradesmen and locals ever since it opened its doors in the summer of 1990.
The fringe cafe is funky, its ecclectic, it seeks to revive the essence of "cafe culture" that has thrived in the streets of Paris and the cafes of Amsterdam and San Francisco. Its part beatnic, part hippie, part working class.
The Latin Quarter Restaurant (tapas) on Commercial Drive:
http://www.latinquarterrestaurant.ca...r/Welcome.html
Sometime ago a little unknown restaurant opened its doors on a then quiet Commercial Drive. Now, eighteen years later, it is an institution in the heart of Commercial Drive. The Latin Quarter thrives with popularity amongst local Vancouverites and is a one of a kind restaurant known for its fun atmosphere, great food, and vibrant live music from local performers

Oh yeah, one more to add. The Teahouse in Stanley Park, which is more of a "fine dining" elegance experience, the sort of place where the waiter plops the napkin on your lap and periodically combs the bread crumbs from your table cloth. Haven't been there in years so I can't vouch for the food these days (but I think it's always been highly regarded), but hey...it's in Stanley Park, eh?

I love this place too, one right out front the Sutton off Robson.
The best part is that there was a Molson Canadian commercial 6 years ago that talked about how "foreign beer is almost as bad as a Japanese Hot Dog". My buddy and I were watching it, he turns and says "I bet a Japanese Hot Dog would be the best tasting thing ever."
3 years later, JapaDog comes along, and he was totally right...
Not a date place, but check it out for lunch.

If you like meat and BBQ go there. Go with at least 4 people and get the Elvis platter. If you have 6+ go for the Priscilla.
I know you recommended against seafood places, but you should reallly try the world class sushi. Try Tampopo on Denman for an all you can eat menu that will let you sample lots of things. Both fish and non-fish.
For great Indian try the Indian Oven.
Also great Chinese food everywhere.
Nyalas for African.

I went to the Salmon House in WV for the first time when I home a few weeks ago, honestly was a bit disappointed in the food although the view is incredible.
+1 for Las Margaritas.

Put me in the camp of people that hates Memphis Blues. I like meat, I like BBQ, but I hate Memphis Blues. Something in their recipe that totally turns me off. Also, another restaurant in the Lower Mainland that everyone loves but I seem to hate is Anton's Pasta House in Burnaby. THere's always a huge lineup out the door on Friday and Saturdays and I have no idea why. I guess it would be because of their insane portions. You're full, you look at your plate and you barely make a dent into your meal. Big portions, yes. Good pasta, HELL NO!!! Probably the most overrated restaurant in the Vancouver area.

Theres a nice joint up on Grouse Mountain, great food and obviously one of the all time great views in the world.
Best mexican in town these days is Donna Cato's up on Victoria Drive and 34th, cheap and tacky looking but the food pees all over Los Margeritas.
Vejays on Granville and 10th or 11th is outstanding and Octopuses Garden on Cornwell is a great sushi joint.
