Default DV to PC help

Well I have an older Canon DV camcorder that I would like to add them to my digital library on my laptop. Problem is that I dont have a firewire port on my laptop.

After searching a bit on the Net I came across a few Firewire to USB cables, problem is I am not sure it will work. There doesnt seem to be much infomation about this process out there on the web, and me not being technically savy I have no idea if this is the route I should be going.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

I don't see why the Firewire - USB cable wouldn't work. Unless I am confused about what you are looking to do it is a simple data transfer.

However, depending on the cost of that cable and if you have a desktop computer you might be better off getting a Firewire/USB card for your the desktop like this one from Monoprice for $11.69 + a small amount of shipping.

If you don't have the desktop computer then you might consider a Firewire/USB Combo hub. It costs more (about $35) but then you have extra USB ports as well, which can be helpful for connecting several devices to the limited USB ports on a laptop.

Basically all I am trying to do is take the video off my camcorder and on to my pc (I assume I need to use some sort of Video capturing software).

Thanks for the links, that hub looks like it might just do the trick.

I was origanally just looking at this cable, http://cgi.ebay.ca/USB-to-4-PIN-4ft-...item27b207ec37
