I watched this for the first time on Shaw VOD in HD. It was decent, not spectacular.

I agree with Locke, the best character was the Colonel. What a bad ass dude. Check out the guns on that 50 year old guy. I think I have a man crush. Eww.

I'm sure the experience is incredible in 3d on the big screen. I think it is being re-released this summer. If so, I will make an effort to go and see it.

Otherwise, it's a mediocre movie. And so is the hurt locker. If those are your choices for best movie, then the past year must have been pretty crappy for movies.

I love how every says "they are all about story". I was as well. Then I saw Avatar in the theatre in 3D. Look I've only seen it once, and probably won't again. But you can't judge the movie correctly based on watching it on DVD now.

I havent seen Hurtlocker, so whatever, but Avatar blew. I could write a whole diatribe as to why, but that'd just get me all worked up for no good reason.

Anyways, after about the first hour I was hoping that that Colonel guy won. Blow up their crappy tree, bulldoze what they love. End this abortion of a film.

That is absolutely ######ed. I cant judge it based on DVD? Why not? Thats how I judge EVERY OTHER MOVIE.

Avatar is not special, the fact that it 'must' be seen in ultra HD revolutionary 7 dimensional technology with eleventy five billion colour super amazing awesome techno vision on a screen the size of the Empire State Building is just BS to distract you from the fact that it sucked.

Look at this way, do you think that sometimes a concert could be better than a CD?

Pretty much it, really.

Now, that brings up another question:

Would you rather see Nickelback in concert or listen to a CD?

I'd probably choose the CD.

See and I don't enjoy Nickelback, but hear they put on an awesome show.

Am I the only one that liked, didn't LOVE Avatar, but didn't hate it either?

It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I didn't think it was entirely awful either. I rather enjoyed the visuals more than anything else about the movie (only seen it in 3D), but the story's been done before. Characters were alright. Most of them I didn't really care about one way or another.

I probably wouldn't jump up to watch it again. At least not on my dollar.

It just seems like you either have to love it or hate it.

Avatar sucked.

Well that's basically what the Transformer's movies are, and Vanflamesfan loves those movies more than life itself.

Ya, but not almost-titties you catch in random movies...you know, like in the Bond intros.

back in theaters August 27, with bonus footage of course

i figure Avatar is gonna end up like Star Wars and get theatrical re-releases every few years, especially with the huge 3D hype that most home viewers can't get. if they keep this up it'll probably take decades for another movie to knock it off the highest grossing throne

I wonder if the Blue Dudes shoot first this time.

8 minutes more on a 162 minute movie. This 5% extra bonus feature will make them so many millions of dollars.

I've said time and time again in this thread that this movie needs to be seen in a big screen and in 3D. It's more about the ride and the world that envelops your senses than the story. I'm never going to watch it again personally, because I know it offers nothing on the small screen and yet seeing it in 3D in IMAX was a life-changing experience that just filled all my senses.

And I'm a guy that hates most CG and hates new things. Do you guys remember when you first saw Jurassic Park? Was there a moment when you first saw the Dinosaurs that you just held your breath in? Avatar was like that for me, but for an entire movie where all my senses were just dragged into that world and it was a breathtaking rollercoaster ride...however I know that just like JP, watching it on a small screen at home results in seeing a pretty crappy movie, like watching the rollercoaster do a loop from the ground.
Hey, hey, hey, JP still looks and plays incredible on the television! The same can't be said for Avatar.

Did Jurassic Park look as good on home VHS video when it was first released?

Home cinema has to catch up to what Avatar can do before this comparison works.

Mind you, this is where that comparison ends.... because Avatar just isn't the same quality of movie that Avatar is.
