Default Ethernet through Coax or Powerline ethernet?

I have finally convinced the wife that one of those network media players (wd hd tv, or O!play) are a good idea for our main TV.

Problem is the builder who wired my house put the data jack on the other side of the room from the TV, so I need some alternative other than wireless. I considered powerline ethernet but it seems pretty pricey. I seem to recall that you could find a simple adapter to go from coax to rj45, but in looking for them I am coming up blank, do these exist or am I thinking of thinwire-rj45 adapters? I know that you can get an adapter from Dlink, Netgear etc to do this, but at $200 a pop it is a bit out of my price range.

Anyone have any experience with any of these? Is there a place I can get some in town without being robbed or should I stick to Monoprice? Is there another option I should consider?

Something like this maybe... Belkin Powerline AV+ Starter Kit 200MBPS with 3 Port Adapter

I've never used powerline ethernet but it seems like an interesting idea...

Is there a heating duct or cold air return near the TV? It really isn't hard for the motivated bandwidth junkie to get ethernet where its needed

Nothing.

The only option is to cut out the drywall and drill through the plate to my finished basement, cut open the ceiling in 2-3 places in order to drill through and be able to fish the cable through to my utility room, where if I was desperate I could run a switch.

At this point, I am seriously tempted to just put a wireless access point across the room and buying a Wireless N USB adapter for the O!Play.

We have powerline ethernet here in our office to get our phone system (ethernet based) to places where there is not physical jacks.

I can't really comment on the speed however.

It's not going to work through any kind of power conditioner though.

I've heard from a buddy that even Wireless N will stutter along when you're trying to stream 1080p content.

I'm interested in a solution too as we'll be moving from our newer house with wiring everywhere to a larger older house where it might be tough to run coax.

Netgear Powerline adapters. Up to 200Mbits per second.

Not true. I do this quite regularly. His router/device likely sucks.

True 1080p is something like 50mbps IIRC.

A good N router should easily be able to do that.

The Netgear HD 200mbps I have get a max average throughput of approx 120-150mbps.

The Netgear standard 80mpbs I have get a max average throughput of approx 40-60mbps

The nice thing, is that they create their own mini network so if you set all your devices with static IP's you dont need to turn on your router. I found that out by accident when I forgot to turn on my modem/router one day before watching some streamed movies off my DIVX media device.

I did decided to just go with the O!Play wireless and just attach an external drive that I can use to transfer HD files before I watch them.

A little bit of testing using Standard Def content and there is no problems with it so far even with me running a few other downloads and a torrent on wireless as well.
