A coworker of mine has an absolutely brutal case of food poisoning and he thinks he got it from the Nellies in Marda Loop a couple weeks ago. Apparently when he went to the hospital he wasn't the only one sick that had eaten there. But I am not really sure if it's confirmed that it was Nellies that got him sick so feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but he is pretty sure of it. Hopefully he'll come out of it alright as he has been in and out of the hospital for the past couple weeks.
So if you needed another reason not to eat at any Nellies locations, there you go. I know I'll be avoiding them.

There is no Nellie's in Marda Loop. There never was. It's been rechristened The Loop Diner, and it never had a connection to the other Nellie's aside from paying for the name.
I'm no fan of Nellie's and have never understood the appeal, but your friend's experience has absolutely nothing, zero, zip, nada to do with Nellie's.

Meh, Nellies is a hole. If I want a kickass breakfast, I'll make it myself.

Nellies use to make a real good chicken omelette. Nothing more sadistic than eating two generations of chickens for breakfast!

I find it weird that people in Calgary get all these cases of food poisoning. I have friends who have got it 3 times in the last 2 years. I even got it in Chateau Lake Louise at a Christmas party.
Yet in all my travels and to many poor countries, I/my friends have yet to get a single case. To make it even more bizzare we live in a cold climate where spoilage should be less common. I mean stick it outside and it will freeze 6 month out of the year.
Can anyone shed some light on this one for me?

We don't store our food outside, so what does climate have to do with anything? Poorly prepared and stored food has nothing to do with the country and everything to do with the proprietor.

Again, it is the proprietors responsibility as to what they serve to their customers.
Climate has nothing to do with this.

I see your point on this. I've eaten places with no refrigerator and definitely no clean water and been fine. I think a lot of those places are buying their ingredients from the market on a daily basis though, because food storage is not possible, so they don't get lazy thinking they can store stuff for long periods of time as we get accustomed to.

I agree 100%. As for climate, I was just making a half joke. However, in the dead of January you can afford to leave that pile of smoked hams out on the loading dock for a few hours. In tropical areas that would result in spoilage. So don't kid yourself that climate has nothing to do with it.
Oh and I eat 98.4% of my meals in Calgary, just so you know.

I'm not sure how people can be certain where they got food poisoning? Doesn't it take at least 24 hours to manifest? It's not what you had for lunch.

I'll keep this in mind in case I ever have to work in Calgary. Going down with a mild case of food poisoning has been one of my favorite excuses not to come into work, and it's always more effective when there is a precedent set.

This is true, some food poisonings take days or longer. It could also be the water.
I saw a documentary on bottled water, they claim nobody is monitoring bottled water and results in many illnesses.
They also said the money wasted on bottled water could supply the whole world with clean safe drinking water, a huge problem that kills thousands if not millions of people mostly children 5 and under.
It grossed me out seeing the water people have to drink to survive...

Not even, as with those foods one usually has leftovers, so its often back at er' the next day. I've gone 2-3 days on chicken wings that make your ass feel like a red-hot gatling gun.

Overeasy Breakfast on Edmonton Trail. So flipping awesome. Way better than Diner Deluxe on the same block, in my opinion.

I am always skeptical about that too, that's why I didn't completely pin it on nellies or the loop as it's now called. It might be fairly easy to pin down if you have a bunch of people sick. Ask them where and what they have been eating and if there is a common denominator then theres your cause.
