This is not a game. Freedom of speech is cold comfort if some nut job terrorists attack the innocent.

An alleged al-Qaida militant detained in Iraq said Tuesday he had talked to friends about attacking Danish and Dutch teams at the World Cup in South Africa next month to avenge insults against the Prophet Muhammad.

"We discussed the possibility of taking revenge for the insults of the prophet by attacking Denmark and Holland," al-Qahtani told The AP. "The goal was to attack the Danish and the Dutch teams and their fans," he added.

You do realize the gay cowboy actually won that exchange don't you?

I could draw a picture of your wife or daughter being raped.

Fairly extreme example, but that image could invoke a similar violent reaction to those extremists. Do I have an inalienable right do draw such a picture? Sure. Do you deserve it? Probably not...but maybe. But is it worth it for me to draw it just to prove a point? Probably not so much!

I didn't think they were competing. I interpreted it as an open, pc-free dialogue that was to me very refreshing.

I really don't think browney was condoning killing people over comics, but instead had a retort that was intelligent, concise, and equally offensive to the whitey as a racial slur going back the other way. And everyone laughed over it. I call that a sign of progress and hope for the future.

Rape is rape. Its evil. And while you could exercise your right to freedom of speech and expression, I don't think many people would find it funny.

Religion is something a far larger portion of mainstream society find "funny." Sorry if its insulting, but at least its not evil like rape.

And if the topic meant enough for you to draw a comic to make a point, all the power to you. Seriously.

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to my death your right to say it...so long as you actually effing say something!

Don't ban him. That was awesome! I always wanted a mutant flesh-light anyway.

Actually, someone draw Jesus door-to-door selling Mohammad one.

Drawing pictures of Jesus or other Prophets is not offensive because no where in any holy book does it say that it is forbidden.

Also you mentioned that Masturbation was seen as offensive by Muslims, but what you might not know is that it's also forbidden in Judaism, Christianity, and Catholicism.
I think I follow. So you're saying you'd be less offended if someone masturbated in your face.

Honestly, I doubt it. A rational man would view the cartoon for what it is: a silly attempt at causing offense. He would just laugh it off.

An unstable man might respond violently, so I guess you are - probably inadvertently - implying that a pretty good segment of Sunni Muslims are unstable.

Well the rape itself wasn't so much my point, so much as the idea of being upset by an image. And nobody said these people were rational

Just saying that if the only purpose for drawing this image is to get a rise out of people, is it really worth it? Just because we can doesn't mean we should.

Its not "people" you are getting a rise out of, its Muslims. Nobody else cares if their god is drawn in a cartoon. No normal person in their right mind would rig up a car bomb because of a cartoon.

The purpose is defiance of an infringement on Freedom of Expression and Religion.

Death threats have been made, and peolpe are standing up and saying they will not be affected by these threats.

Yes it may result in in a "rise" but it also might result in a much needed change in attitude. Quite frankly if someone is so irrational that a cartoon convinces them to kill someone, they were probably going to do it anyway. They just would've found some other excuse.

Blamming the "draw Mohammed" crowd for any potential ensuing violence is like blamming a woman who was raped because she didn't dress conservatively enough. In both cases 100% of the blame lies at the feet of the purpotrators of the act of violence.

Yep.

Quite frankly I don't even look at the cartoons. I haven't even looked at the original ones.

I don't care about them.

But I fully support drawing them because it says 'screw you' to all the morons who are making the threats.

Lol, I don't think he meant it to imply that Muslims aren't people, but that Muslims are a subset of people.

I also am not looking at the cartoons. From what I've seen the movement has unfortunately (but predictably) attracted a fair number of racists, and I could care less for their vitrol.

I continue to support the movement, in general, because freedom of religion also means freedom not to practice other people's religions.

When someone says that I cannot draw Mohammed, they are saying I must follow their religious beliefs. If you respect Mohammed, then don't draw him. You can not, however, tell me that I can not draw him (well I guess techinically you can, but I just don't have to listen). You most certainly can not threaten me.

It's unfortunate that many innocent muslims will be offended, but the threats made to cartoonists and artists are far too serious to ignore. The innocent muslims will just have to grow a thicker skin. Quite frankly there are lots of things that people do that offend me every day.

The liberties at stake here far outweigh whatever inadvertant offence might occur.
