Wouldn't you be upset if some group, say, pissed all over the Canadian flag and lit it on fire?

Sure, I but I wouldnt go apeshart about it.

Because it's always fun to poke the extremely anal-retentive. They can't take a joke. It might be as simple as that.
You know what was funny about the Dutch cartoon thing? If I remember right, it was a zero event for about five or six months after publication and only became something after extremists got hold of it and whipped their followers into a frantic frenzy.

A neutral Wikipedia article notes the Koran does not explicitly forbid pictures of Mohammed, that objections flow primarily from tradition and that Shia's are not hung up about it while Sunni's are. Lots of depictions of Mohammed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depictions_of_Muhammad
Wikipedia notes the 2008 controversy generated by it's article but rejected the notion it should be removed.
I'm not going out of my way to draw Mohammed today. But I don't accept a demonstratably intolerant society telling me how tolerant I need to be.
If you were an extremely devout and patriotic Canadian? You wouldn't go apeshart?
I wouldn't kill someone over it. Or even get a headache.

I don't agree with provoking anyone based on religion but I also understand that
some people are still upset about the airliners that slammed into the World Trade Center and the wars and the IEDs and those pesky suicide boomers blowing up innocent civilians.

Pretty wide brush when your basically condemming an entire segment of your population and poking them with a stick because of the actions of very few though.

As a muslim this really makes me upset, but believe it or not I wont be going around killing people that do the drawings. Free speech is great and all untill it offends somebody.
Honestly I really don't care what anyone draws because it doesn't make my beliefs any weaker, but the fact this is being done just to piss off muslims bothers me. Would you guys feel the same way if today was swastika day? Both are highly offensive IMO and I would never go out of my way to offend anyone just for the sole purpose of offending them.
Also I'm not a ape or a suicide bomber so please don't paint all muslims with the same brush.

But your saying that from your perspective now. If that flag, and your duty to nation were intertwined into your belief system, and you had been raised from birth to believe that the flag and your duty to nation were to form a major part of your life and your personality you'd be extremely upset.
I will say right now, that if I saw a bunch of s burning the flag, that I would probably be laying the smack down on them.

In a secular society, which as far as I can tell Canada is, what they, or anyone else believes is irrelevant.
Being offended is a choice each individual makes. Walking on eggshells because someone chooses to be offended by a stick figure is ridiculous.
I will agree, many depictions made of Mohammad are offensive, and intentionally so. I would not choose to depict him in that manner.
Seeing as no-one has taken me up on the pledge offer above, here is my offensive image:
 <-Mohammad
I will prepare for the outrage. While I am at it here are some more, equally offensive images.

Burning the flag is completely different. You're mocking a whole country. Which includes many different beliefs.
But drawing someone that lived thousands of years ago? Really?

That statement isn't intended to be mocking or joking. 'Free speech' is unnecessary unless it allows offending.

Yep.
It ain't free speech if I can't offend you.

Maybe a swastika day would be a good idea! Offend everyone instead of just one group of people, so people can get over being offended?

The difference though is in this case, the concept of freedom of speech, or illustration is merely being used to invoke a negative reaction, this isn't about debating or working to change society.
Its a postureing gesture. This is basically slapping a community in the face and saying "That I'm doing his because I can"
I didn't know that moving towards the equivalent of being a loud mouthed drunken idiot was a good use of freedom of expression.

Yeah thats awesome, then we can have some more anti hate group members acting like morons.
I hate hate groups, but these people seem to always start the problems at these rally's.
Freedom of speech, means don't throw rocks dumba$$

It's quite evident you know nothing about Islam. Being offended is not a choice everyone makes. If I walked up to you and spit in your face would that be your choice to be offended or not? I would be intentionally insulting you and you would have no choice but to be offended.
Drawing pictures of Jesus or other Prophets is not offensive because no where in any holy book does it say that it is forbidden. Also you mentioned that Masturbation was seen as offensive by Muslims, but what you might not know is that it's also forbidden in Judaism, Christianity, and Catholicism.
I really don't care what you draw just don't make it seem like it's anything other than hate you are trying to spew.

So is someone spitting in your face when they draw a cartoon of Mohammad?
