Moderation is key
Exactly, I've cut my profile right down to the bare bones. No "pages", no "I likes", and all of my options except adding me are friends only.

I've also fully opted out of the social media thing they introduced (including removing the 3 pages that you are automatically put in even if you uncheck the box) and have run the 'reclaim privacy' program that is out now.

I have no delusions about privacy with facebook. I have my photos and wall set as friends only, and I don't have hundreds of friends. My facebook started out as an easy way to keep in touch with other season ticket holders so we could swap our tickets for games we weren't attending. Its still very heavily hockey related because I've met some really cool Kings and Flames fans and facebook is an easy way to stay in contact. Now I have some other friends, family and former coworkers that are friends. I will never be one of those people with 200 "friends." Anyone on my facebook is someone I know, someone that I would have lunch with and don't want to lose contact with. Its not a popularity contest for me. I have zero apps, so when people send me a gift or heart or whatever, it asks for me to approve some sort of sharing, and no, I won't.

Even as much as I try to keep my facebook very private, I still wouldnt post any comments or photos that could be the least bit compromising for myself, my family, my career or my friends. It's still the internet, it's still a site that I have no real control over what they do with the content when all is said and done.

Have to go to the friend profile page, and it'll be below all the items on the left menu boxes.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Gawdd this really annoyed me with like 20 of my female friends having that as their status within a week.

I have a friend that updates her FB religiously. 'Woke up late today...' '(her son) is cranky and needs a nap' 'Making lasagna for dinner' 'Watching American Idol' 'Think I'll og to bed early' and on and on and on.

And then she'll like HER OWN status and comment on it herself. come on.. REALLY???

If she wasn't one of my good friends I'd take her off FB. But seriously, it's kind of pathetic.

And I hate those damn apps. Something like Mafia Wars sounds like fun, but I don't really have time. Not to mention I've hidden pretty much every app possible from my news feed other than PSN and XBL ones.

Minimized my settings to bare bones today... essentially it is a really crappy email account now, and posted this as my status....

"I will be deleting my FB account in 14 days. Privacy and security issues are too high risk with the recent updates. I have realized, I could run credit applications and reports on over the half the people I know on here using the just info in their profiles. I would not do that, but there are many people out there that wouldn't hesitate to use such info for nefarious purposes. Who really has 534 friends anyway? I am perfectly satisfied with the 10 or so I have in "real life", and as most of you know I have little time if any for most of you. And to be quite honest, I could care less if you "OMG!1!1! slept in today." And I have zero interest in last nights American Idol results. Anyone wishing to obtain alternate contact info for me, please message me by May 31st."
