Default Indian Man Goes Without Food For 70 Years

Quote:
An Indian man has mystified a team of military doctors after he abstained from food and water for two weeks.

Prahlad Jani, an 82-year-old yogi who claimed he hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for 70 years , was observed by 30 medics in a hospital in the Indian state of Gujarat. He spent two weeks under constant surveillance in an area equipped with cameras and closed circuit television. During the 15-day period, which ended Thursday, Jani didn’t eat, drink or go to the toilet.

Wow... is this even possible?

There is NO way someone could go 70 years without food or drink.

As the article states, its a "claim". Unfortunately it would be a immoral claim to test, as forcing him to starve under labrotory conditions would ultimately lead to his death.

It would be like a crazy person claiming that he is immune to arsenic poisoning and can survive a dose ten times the normal lethal dose; no one in their right mind would actually ask him to test his claim, because of course, the result would be death.

I heard of a different Indian 'sneaky yogi' who claimed to survive on sunlight. NASA took a good hard look at him, and came to the conclusion that he was completely full of it. When an institution I respect says this man is for real, I'll believe it.

This is why degrees PhD's/MD's and other graduate degrees issued countries like India are not recognized in Canada/U.S.

It'd be pretty awesome if I could do photosynthesis. Damn.

Could he be like superman? His powers increase as he comes in contact with sunlight. Freaking sweet.

The idiocy of that man in the pink shirt bumbling on about how it will help them get to Mars seriously, SERIOUSLY bothers me. What a complete and utter fool. My god. Shoot him now.

Millions upon millions have starved to death on this planet in a matter of weeks/months yet some people will believe he went 70 years...why is this even news?

They've only been observing him for 15 days. IIRC, one can plausibly survive that period without food or drink. I vote they test his health after (something that seems to not be mentioned).

Obviously seems like BS, but the reaction in this thread is pretty harsh. Most things in science that we now accepted were once reacted to like this as well.
A flat earth, flying, going to space/the moon, cloning, stem cell research, evolution etc.etc.... Even in nature, there is all sorts of amazing things like organisms that seem to never age, virgin births and more.

Who knows, maybe there is something more to this story than complete BS. The reactions here remind me of some ancient culture stoning to death the first person who said the earth was round.

Not that I disagree, but there are some pretty questionable post secondary institutions in the US/Canada too. I work with some graduates from China that really know their stuff, and, at the same time, I've worked with some American's that are complete idiots.

While there are strange things that happen on this planet like life thriving in the depths of the oceans at the pipes but there has never ever been a human miracle that couldn't be explained. To live without food or water for 70 years is beyond a miracle.

Human beings who don't eat food or drink water will die.

There really ain't no two ways about it. It's not some archaic superstition.

You can't go more than three days without water.
