They also activated Rzepczynski from the DL and assigned him to Las Vegas.

Ruiz hasn't had much of a chance but really hasn't done anything so far this year. Thought they might keep him around to play against left handers. I think this pretty much leaves Overbay as the only guy currently on the team who plays first.

IIRC, didn't Lind and Snider play a few games at first sparingly last year?

Martinez really has no phrase to describe a ball in on the hands other than "fisted"???

Cecil with a quality start tonight and Jays go into the 9th up 3-2.

Can move to within just a game back of the wildcard behind the Yankees. I know it's still super early, but with my expectations for this year, I'm going to get excited about every little thing I can

Nice win for the Jays though I thought they were going to put it away early when they were up 3-0 with the bases loaded and 1 out. Nice to see Cecil get the W.

Should be interesting tomorrow. Romero is usually solid and Vargas is pitching way over his head so far this season.

Seems like every 2nd year they get the idea that they're going to contend and go bring in a bunch of expensive players and than they bomb out. They get rid of them in the offseason and than over achieve the next season. But they have zero power in their lineup right now.

not that I recall, when Overbay takes a day off I would guess Bautista would play 1st Base.

Ruiz should've been given string of games to prove himself. Oh well.

Jays up 3-1 thru 7 here. Another good outing from Romero giving the Jays 6 2/3 innings and only allowing a single run. Jose I lead the majors in homeruns since September 7th of last year Bautista, hits his 12th home run of the season.

Well looks like brilliant use of the bullpen is going to cost the Jays todays game.

Dummy Gaston chews through all his pitchers and has no one left for when Gregg can't get anyone out. This after Gregg just threw last night and was less than effective.

Yeah, clarence should feel remiss in using camp and frasor so briefly. Gregg didn't have his A game out here in the west coast. Frasor and Camp both were more effective. What happened to the 3 headed hydra closer we were promised?

Still that comeback win ties with the second worst record for comeback wins in the Majors. They needed that as a fanbase. Especially when Griffey gets so sleepy...

He's supposed to be yawning.

Yup, that was awful. Wasting their 2nd best reliever for 1 out when the closer pitched the night before is terrible managing. Wasting their 4th best one in the eighth for one out is equally stupid.

I hate this mentality that managers have about throwing the closer out there and just letting pitch until the game is over either way. Managing can be difficult (ie; knowing when to pull the starter out before he goes too long and implodes), but it is very easy to manage a closer. If he goes out there and allows 2 hits and 2 walks in his first 4 batters he's not going to get out of the jam. It's logical and I've seen in backed up statistically too (for starters and relievers both - if they struggle early, the odds of them putting it together are very slim). But I guess when you burn through your entire bullpen to get 4 outs in the 7th and 8th, you had to live with a tired closer.

Yeah, why he went to Frasor in the 7th with two outs, baffles me. He pretty much left himself with no plan B on day when he needed one. Fart, why not stick with Camp in the 9th, he brings him in to face Sweeny with runners on in the 8th. What changed so drastically that he goes to Gregg to face the same guy in the 9th with no one on base? It was the 8th inning with two out and guys on where he was in a worse situation.

The stupidity of managnig your pen to get a save.

Poor Blue Jays. Only one team in baseball has won more games (much to my surprise I might add) and they are in 3rd place in their division. Brutal.

MLB really has to take a look at somehow equalling the playoff races IMO. No idea how they could do that beyond lumping everyone in each league into one large division like they did way back when, and then taking the top 4 at the end of the year and playing off like they do now.

There was talk of "floating realignment."

Basically, if you want to tank the season and guarentee shared revenue then you play in the AL East. Want to make the playoffs and forgo shared revenue, play in the West.
That kind of thing. Silly on it's face, but at least it's innovative. I think a simpler system where the Commish/League Office dictates that (from 2006 to 2009) the AL East is obviously the best and a shuffle is just common sense.

I think they'd need to go back to two Divisions and have two wild card spots that would be awarded to the two teams who didn't win their Division with the best record. Balance out the schedule a bit too. That way you could finish 3rd in the AL East and still make the playoffs.

Keeps the tradition of winning your Division and making the playoffs, and allows all teams a numerically equal shot of winning their Division. Right now with 4 teams in the AL West those teams inherently have a better chance of making the playoffs just due to fewer teams to beat out. Let alone the economic stuff.

If I had to devise a solution, it would be to swap Toronto and Florida.

Jays would be competitive year in and year out in the NL East. Florida, a team with really no natural rivals, gets one in Tampa Bay. As a team who struggles with attendance they may really appreciate the additional dates with New York and Boston.

Toronto's attendance would also improve as they become more competitive. Toronto also has a history with Philadelphia and Atlanta.
