I agree that Northland has way to long of a wait list for service

I've had two VWs (Passat and GTI). Northland VW are rip-off artists. I remember when one of my dash lights burned out and they were going to charge me $100 to fix it - a tech even came out to see which bulb and told me it was at least an hour job. I said forget it and bought a bulb for a couple of bucks. All I had to do was pull out my fan knob and the bulb was right there - literally a 10 second job.

Southcentre Fine Cars is no better in my experience. One time we had the Passat there for a rattle in the dash or something minor like that. When they gave the car back the rattle was gone, but the stereo didn't work. We took it back to have them fix the stereo, then they were going to charge us a couple of hundred labour on that. It took my wife basically freaking out in their showroom for them to give us our keys. They also wanted ~$400 or something outrageous to replace the glass in a sideview mirror. I understand dealerships are more expensive than private places, but come on. We ended up getting that done at a glass shop for $30ish.

5th Avenue Auto Haus is the only one that I thought gave good service. I remember having both the cars there a couple of times and never having a problem.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to service your car at a VW dealership, I can think of 3 very capable shops in town that can help with your VW's maintenance.

Service departments are the the biggest reason people say bad things about dealerships but they're really a completely separate business that operates in the same building. Kinda like Blackberry-Rogers, Blackberry-Telus, Blackberry-Bell, etc.

when the new Passat came out you could only go to a VW dealer for service. I couldn't get an oil change as they had a filter and such that only VW carried.

2006 Jetta TDI, but I don't live in Calgary, so I'm sure the radio station doesn't matter

1. Yes.
2. No.

I found the dealer to be pretty high-pressure (and kinda sleazy).....didn't really enjoy the experience at all. That said - I love my car. It's exactly the car that I thought I was getting and would highly recommend a VW.

what is with the rusting on the back end of VW Golf's? I swear every one I see 5 years or older is rusting in the exact same spot on the back hatch near the licence plate. My wife had a 97 golf back in the day and sure enough rust in the exact same spot.

I have a Mazda Protege hatchback and they are plagued by a similar rust problem. About half of those cars that I see have rust around the "Protege" badge on the back. Mine started to develop some as well, but I was able to get it patched.

Manufacturing faults aside, I wonder if hatchbacks are more prone to rust on the backs because of how filthy they get. In the winter, the back of a hatchback is caked with salt and grime and is often quite wet, more so than cars that aren't so flat at the back.

I would personally recomend Kendal as a service advisor at South Center and nobody else. Hes great to deal with and knows his stuff. If your over the VW dealers maybe try out Two Square Auto Repair just off 41st ave. Also good to deal with.

I've had a number of difficulties with Two Square, enough that I don't think I trust them.

I never would have imagined that a little bit of discussion would find its way onto a... discussion board.

Maybe tell everyone a little bit about what you're seeking the info - it might encourage more answers.

i disagree with this statement completely - the person/group that owns the dealership owns all the parts of it (new/used sales, parts, service etc).....
