Default Mormon Temple to be built in Royal oak

Quote:
A massive temple that will serve as many as 20,000 Calgary-area Mormons broke ground on a residential hilltop in the northwest Saturday.

More than 1,000 people, including the mayor, several aldermen, MLAs and an MP oversaw the ceremony, which marks the beginning of construction on what will become the third Mormon temple in Alberta.

Agreed, the architecture is stunning. I've toured the SLC temple, and it was amazing to look at, even if one is not of the Mormon faith.

What in the world were the comments that were removed by the moderator? I mean it's about a church being built, it's not like that is an uncommon event.

Well, you gotta give it to the Mormons, they know how to get things done. Their religion/beliefs are not my cup of tea, but I've never really met a mormon who wasn't a solid respectable citizen, so who am I to judge.

Scientologists and Jehovah's on the other hand.....

That temple looks freaking cool. Maybe I will convert to Mormonism just to hang out in that place.

addendum: respectable but sneaky. They did trick my whole family into visiting their fancy pants temple in Hawaii though via some sort of free tour bus offered at a theme park.....I guess I shoul'dve know when we were riding in the bus on our "tour", and the woman asked us where we were from, and when we told her Alberta, she mentioned how they had a temple there. Silly gullible tourists.

I wonder why people have issue with this?

If the Mormon's aren't bugging me (ignoring the door to door selling of their religion) then I don't see the problem with a temple.

In the words of a Mormon I know, "Son of a bee string". That is one big temple.

The one in Cardston is a lot smaller but still equally impressive to look at.

What I find interesting is that I don't hear all the complaining about a big temple being built

But if it was a Sikh,Muslim or other, there would be the classic excuses why it should not be built there.

Or maybe those were the comments that were removed? Some Christian groups view Mormons as a cult.

That is why Romney will never be President.

IIRC, simply being Mormon doesn't even grant you the right to enter. You have to hold a certain amount of respect within the establishment.

I have to say, this temple looks ugly as hell. The architecture is very impressive, but not my style.
