Not the one...

From Marcum's game against the Sox - Snider great against a guy that really messed his timing. I liked the umpire being liberal with balls and strikes and keeping the game moving. When Sawx/Yankee games start approaching four hours I think the onus is on the umpire to speed it up (by calling borderline pitches strikes for both teams) and that's what happened today.
As Mike Wilner described it:
Quote:
David Ortiz got rung up on a pitch that was, conservatively, six inches outside, and then got ahead of Adrian Beltre on a check-swing that likely wasn’t, but Scott called it a swing without asking for an appeal. That incensed Beltre, and Terry Francona came out to get ejected, then starting arguing the call on Ortiz (who also happened to flip out on Scott, but got to stay in the game). Both calls were pretty bad, but nice to see. The Red Sox and Yankees seem to have this sense of entitlement about them that they’re going to get the close calls - I think that Youkilis honestly believes that he’s never actually taken a legit strike in his life - and it’s exceedingly rare to see the close ones not go their way. Maybe it’s a little small of me, but it was nice to see the scales tip away from them.

I definitely didn't think Ortiz's strike-out pitch was 6 inches outside. More like 3 or 4. And anyone watching that game should have seen that the inside part of the plate wasn't a strike all day, but that strike was extended 2 inches outside the plate. It was a close call, but nothing ridiculous considering how the game was called.
It was actually ridiculous how much whining the Red Sox got away with before someone got the boot. Ortiz was arguing balls and strikes to the ump's face all game (usually an easy boot - if you want to complain to an ump you do it looking towards the pitcher). Then after he got punched out he got right in his grill and Francona was even allowed to argue with the umps.
It took Francona coming out a second time before the ump had enough. Had it been, say, Lind getting punched out he would've been booted immediately after his at-bat.

Interesting tidbit this morning: Sportsnet and TSN have made a "trade" so that now SN will carry all 162 of the Jays games this year, buying back the 25 TSN had. That means no games in TSN for the first time since 1984 when it first went on air.

Really? I'm not really all that surprised. The bigger surprise to me, in my opinion, was that TSN even had a handful of games in the first place.

I wonder what Sportsnet "traded" to TSN? As for Sportsnet, that's a good move the Jays games have been entertaining this year.

Harden just walked five jays in one inning, didn't Morrow just do the same thing?

Nice to see the offensive outpouring (comeback kids anyone?), but man what a bad game....and it's going to take forever.
But damn, Lewis has been a steal. Snider is really smacking the ball around too.

5 home runs for the Jays already tonight. The 2, 3, 4, & 5 hitters have all hit homers. I've only played in one slow pitch game this year that had this much scoring. This game still has plenty of time to up that.

I'm hoping the attendance starts to mirror the play of the Jays this season; they have been way more fun to watch, Halladay or not.
