I drove through OKC and Moore the week after that tornado on my way to Madill. I have seen some tornado destruction in my time in Kansas, but that was on a whole other level. That said, I haven't have the heart to drive through Greensburg since it was wiped out.

I have not been in a tornado in the lengthy (too lengthy) amount of time I've spent in Kansas, nor have I seen one live. Lucky.

Seeing that would literally make me crap my pants.

I'm slightly chilly this evening and am complaining that Calgary should get more sun soon. What a wuss.

Hope things are okay Nicker!
I love watching tornadoes/waterspouts develop out over the ocean. It's usually hard to tell how far away they are though, especially if you're a bit inland. But watching the sky change and the funnel cloud develop is awe inspiring.

Remember this?

Edmonton tornado - July 31, 1987. This sucker was an F4 and killed 27 people. The Pine Lake tornado in July 2000 was an F3 and killed 12. Tornadoes can and do happen in Alberta.

Glad you & your family are OK, nicker. Those things are scary as hell.

I was in Missouri last Month and had one pass about 10 miles north of my Hotel.

The TV was blasting alerts every 20 minutes for a new county as the storm cell moved north east.

All we got was buckets of rain and lots of wind.

Glad yer OK nicker...........

When I lived in Texas we got hit by a major tropical storm that came in from the Carolina's. Not quite the same, but still terrifying with the 100+ mile an hour winds, the sheets of rain. Oh and a bunch of stupid Canadian kids sitting on the balcony of the apartment drinking beer and watching cars getting picked up.

my wife and i were driving to her parents a few years ago when iowa city, iowa got their strong F2 tornado: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_Ci...City_tornadoes

luckily we missed the tornadic part and just got hit with all the hail and rain. as we got to the back side of the storm we did see the tornado though.

living up here we see fewer tornadoes than nicker, but still have a decent amount of warning. before i moved to the QC 3 years ago i lived in a town 45 miles south and we got hit by a 'gustnado': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustnado

it totally blew apart the building next to our house. the roof of it hit the tree in our back yard and knocked it over:

Who the heck says YAY-HOO - is that OK slang for Yah-Hoo?

The unpredictable weather is one of the great things about living in Calgary. Other than actually living in OK, I am sure I would love living there for the weather alone.

The crazy thing , now that I am at work and can watch some news, is how far out they predicted these things. Last Monday they said the conditions for 5-10 will likely produce a tornado outbreak! Craziness.

Ummm I prob said YAY-HOO on accident I was excited and the middle of a Tornado Warning .. many apologies =)

Sad thing is they are predicting Tornados everynight thru Thurs..

3 of them were just east of Norman in Tecumseh. 1 was on the interstate were a guy was sucked from his vehicle (not in a good way). However he was then ran over by a motor home. Im not sure if it was blown on top of him or it was driving and ran over him.

I am in Moore just North of Norman. Im actually real close to the Moore/Norman border.

I know there was some activity west of OKC too. Saw some footage of a nice sized twister in or near Yukon. I have a lot of family in the Geary area, so always paying close attention to Blaine and Canadian counties.
