Default 12 yo babysitter sued by insurance company

Aaliyah Braybrook was days shy of her 12th birthday when a fire broke out in the home where she was babysitting.

Court documents state a five-year-old boy grabbed a lighter and set fire to his home in Clairmont, north of Grand Prairie.

The 14-year-old is now being sued by the insurance company of the boy's grandparents. They owned the home next door which was also damaged in the fire.

i wonder if this insurance company will follow through... there name will inevitably come out since the babysitters name came out (which never happens with people under 18) and i can only imagine a large public backlash.

seems to be setting a very dangerous precedent... insurance for babysitters? licensed babysitters?

how will they even collect from this child if they are suing her directly?

in summary... what a bunch of jerks

I hope they are successful. This girl deserves everything she gets, she knew the risks going into it.

Babysitters will just have to build this liability into their rates...

Well I think everyone should boycott this insurance company, take your business elsewhere.

I'd sue the parents. Those pricks may produce more fire startin' punks. Unless they take up buggery...hmm, could a couple get reduced premiums if they only practice buggery?

It should be noted that the grandparents have said they didn't initiate the lawsuit....and didn't even know about it until afterwards. This is entirely the doings of the insurance company.

I would counter sue the insurance company for legal costs.

Hopefully their name comes out on all of this, and hopefully its not Wawanesa

All the grandparents have to do is tell the media who their home insurance was through at the time of the incident. Should be easy for that to become public.

(A) This may not be the ethical thing to do, but perhaps the economical thing to do. Corporations are not interested in doing what is right, but rather what will give them the most profit. If you don't like it, vote for the Marxist-Lenist party next election.

(B) How much responsiblity DOES a babysitter have? I question how well she was doing her job if her job was to watch the 5 year old and somehow he got playing with matches. Suing her is overboard, but I think she does deserve some punishment.
