Some say the telegraph officer got wasted, passed out and thus delayed the news much longer than it should have...only in Cape Breton!

Probably because I was just a part time Cape Bretoner.

EDIT: I'm planning on making a return there this summer. If so, it'll be your job to round up any and all Nova Scotia CP'ers for a drunken CP meet. Although in NS the drunkeness goes without saying.

Going back long before the Calgary Olympics, I met a surprising amount of people that knew about the Calgary Stampede, including Texas and parts of Mexico. I also dated a girl from Oz that knew all about the Stampede. Naturally the Olympics gave Calgary international exposure, but it's a relatively recent and one time event.

Another thing Calgary would be known for is the Oil sector of course.

From Wiki

	Quote:

On the morning of November 10, 1918, the office received a top-secret coded message from Europe. It stated that effective at 11 am the next day (November 11, 1918) all fighting would cease on land, sea and in the air.
Therefore the people of North Sydney, in particular Mrs. Annie Butler Smith, were the first to know about the end of the Great War. It is reported that on the night on November 10, 1918, over 200 servicemen celebrated by marching through the streets of the town to celebrate the end of the war, one day before the rest of the world knew.

Well I don't have much family there anymore, so I'll likely be pretty mobile and checking everything out in NS, rather than hunkering down in one location like i used to.

I was aiming for mid August, but I'll let you know what happens.

Actually in my travels around the world when I say "Calgary" most immediately say the Calgary Stampede. then they ask..where is Calgary? Then it's another issue, to American's I first tried "about 200 miles straight north of Billings, Montana" after I see the confusion on their face I just say screw it and say 600 miles west of Seattle...I'm still amazed.

But in the end they all seem to have heard about the stampede.
