Where you want to live (if you end up down here) is in Prestwick (north end of MacKenzie Towne).
We have 2 elementary schools (if kids are in your future plans) plus you can walk to 4 (soon to be 5) grocery stores as well as all of the other shopping on 130th Avenue.
All the homes have rear lanes, all the streets have sidewalks and the walks are separated from the roadway. No front driveways also are a big plus to the visual appeal and general livability of the neighbourhood.
Transit provides good access to downtown with the express buses during peak times and the BRT during the rest of the day. My family of four has a single car and I take the bus downtown (#117 - I get on the bus at 6:10 a.m. and am sitting in my office at 6th ave & 4th St SW at 6:42).
Our Resident's Association fees are $200 dollars this year and compare favourable to many of the surrounding communities. I sit on the Board of the Association and would be glad to answer any other questions you have about the community.

Chalk me up for happy to take the bus. I used to drive from NB to sunridge everyday for work. Now i bus it downtown and it is way better. Having just completed the winter trips for the most part and only having a handful of days where it was painful to get home was awesome compared to driving home from sunridge everyday I will take the bus downtown evertime!
**Firebug I think I take the same bus as you when I miss the 302 and don't want to wait 10 more mins for the next one. It sucks since I get on the last stop there is usually no seats so 9 times out of 10 I just wait for 302 so I can sit in comfort with the 12 other people that take the bus**

I can understand the long commute, its not for me, but if you change from bus to driving that alone is worth it. I hate the bus.
I rarely see people who make that choice regret it (or admit to it), so I guess its not that bad. I have seen regret when the persons have moved out of the city, like strathmore or high River. That commute is soul crushing.

I don't recall a morbidly obese guy... fortunately.
You're fortunate that your mom's basement is so close to downtown

You can't on the one hand deride people for spending past what they can afford, and on the other hand chastise people for living in "sprawl".

Not really sure where I gave an indication as to how much money I make or that I live in an expensive area of Calgary. For the record, I'm a just-finished university student that has lived in another province 8 months of the year for the past few years. I do ok at my summer job I suppose, but you're right. I'm sure not everybody makes as much as me.

Which will be the 5th grocery store? I just moved to Prestwick myself.

Actually, in the far north, we call people like you vagabonds or homeless

No kidding! When I moved here in 97, my company took us to Symon’s Valley ranch for a new-hire welcome party - we took a school bus down dirt roads, and I was sure I was in the country...Now I can walk to Symon’s Valley ranch from my house...
