Bridgeland? That's not REAL NE, that's like living in Inglewood and claiming you live in the SE, or Kensington and you live in the NW, or part of bowness and you live in the SW.
I want to see:
Cranston
Bridlewood
Royal Oak or Evenston
Corral Springs or Temple

Unless there is a wicked snow storm or accident, it doesn't take an hour to get downtown from anywhere in this city.

According to a map of the city of Calgary Bridgeland IS the real NE. Do I need to bring Buster Bluth in to prove my point?
Or I guess we can all just agree that us inner city residents have the right idea.

Coming home (leaving around 5:30 or 5:45) I found it to be 35-45 min home, and leaving at 5 a pretty guaranteed 45min+

I leave my house at 7:00 am sharp every day, and 99% of the time i'm sitting in my office at 7:25 ( in fairness, my office is right off the 10th Street Bridge).
Only if it snows do my times vary. For some reason this morning it took me 35 minutes, but I think that's because I left a little later because the howling winds kept me up all night (the #1 thing I hate about the Nortwest, the goddamn wind).

I live in Elgin.
I have 2 options to commute downtown.
The express bus, takes me 45 minutes including all walking to get to work, and an hour (or more) to get home because 5th Ave is killer leaving downtown.
The BRT, takes 50mins - 1 hour total commute time either way, but if I take it I drive from my house to park at the bus stop by the condo construction area near 52nd and McIvor.
Driving from the deep SE sucks though, if you are on Deerfoot between 7:00 and 7:30 you can add 15 minutes easily to a normal drive time. I would rather be at work half an hour early or more than deal with that traffic.

If it wasn't for my wife, and her dying need to have a house to show off to her friends, i'd still be downtown. It saddens me on the weekend when I want some drinks, but my cul-de-sac is all in bed by 9 pm. I feel a little of my youth dying each day.

The express buses were the biggest reason I moved out of the South (I didn't have parking back than). If you are a working professional, you generally just can't up and leave at 4:45 every day. Work past 6 pm, and good friggen luck getting back to the deep South. $50 cab ride it is.

Is a day like today likely to impact Southbound Deerfoot? (i.e. not much accumulation but limited visibility and high winds)

No worse than any other day. However, there is construction on the Calf Robe all summer so that will definitely slow things down.

I hear ya, but another real problem is affordability of anything with more than 2 bedrooms in the immediate inner city. I'm talking places like Mission, Cliff Bungalow, and Erlton (all of which we quite like, especially Cliff Bungalow). It's a challenge we are facing as we look to find a 3 bedroom place since we anticipate growing out of our 2 bedroom condo.

It shouldn't, but i guarantee it will. Calgary has the worst weather drivers on the planet (rgardless of your commute or route home).

A little, yeah, but it's rare to do more than 70 on Deerfoot during rush hour anyway. Chances of an accident today are way higher though, and that would seriously screw things up.

As for the wind, I miss the fresh air up there. We're breathing pure puke air in my neighbourhood on inversion days, up there it was always nice and fresh with a view of hazy yellow downtown in the distance.

The Deep South absolutely sucks for a commute (only one route), has no public transportation for those who like to indulge in a few drinks on the weekend, unless you live right in MacKenzie there is screw all for shopping/groceries/entertainment in your own neighbourhood, and if you work downtown you have atleast an hour commute each way. I don't care what some people are posting on here, but I work downtown and I lived there. It's an hour each way to Cranston from downtown no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

What are you playing at? I ride my bike in the summer to work in 50 minutes.
I start my Baseball Today podcast when I pull out of my garage and i'm usually 20-25 mins in when I get to work.

Which of you are moving to Royal Oak? There's a few very hot chicks that parade in very small bikinis during the warm months here. There's also a few chicks that jog in their bikinis in the morning.

You drive from Downtown Calgary to Cranston/Auburn Bay/et. in 20 minutes?
Can I give you money, and you buy me a lotto ticket?
