He is just another anonymous poster who is trying to suck me into a silly name calling arguement. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This time it is not going to work.

Isn't the entire purpose of a user name to prevent anonymous people from exploiting your identity?

I can only speak for myself, ...but I am not ashamed of anything I have said here or anywhere else.

So basically, he has no problem saying the same thing under his real name if there were no repercussions but since there are repercussions, he's not going to say things under his real name?

Who needs social norms on the internet anyhow.

Do you have a problem with free speech or something?

Nobody forces you to read it.

I absolutely do not have a problem with free speech. Did I say the site should be shut down?

Why do you have a problem with me calling a site that harbours neo-nazis a cess pool?

Because you blanket the entire site with that generalization.

I've actually posted there before. Years ago, and I sometimes read it now. While there are idiots on there, there are idiots on here too, and I don't call CP a cesspool of human filth.

Oh, I get his point. I also get that he defeated his own argument with it. He's the one stating that someone with an opinion shouldn't be anonymous, then chooses to remain anonymous while stating his opinions. He doesn't want to reveal who he is because he doesn't want to be held accountable for his words and opinions.

The truth is, there are a lot of reasons to remain anonymous. The multiple examples of people losing jobs and relationships because of things they post to Facebook and the like is more than enough.

JAG is right to not want to reveal his real identity, but for him to argue that others should is most definitely sanctimonious bullcrap.

Oh my god. Did I actually say that? Can you go back and re-read what I said. Did I say anything about other should reveal their identiies? I am asking questions no the topic as a point of discussion. You are making assumptions of what my opinion is and then judging what I am saying. Please don't decide what I am thinking.

I started with a question. This is what I said ....

Why do people have to hid their identity on the internet? If you have an opinion why be anonymous about it?

Then I said ....

No. I am not kidding. It seems that too many people hide behide their anonymous id and then think they can say anything they want. If they were not anonymous then it would clean up alot of this internet crap.

Then I said ....

I fully expected that response. You win for being first. I have nothing to hide. But unfortunately the other anonymous people of the world enjoy screwing with people's lives so I won't post under my real name.

If you posted under your real name would you post any differently? Be honest. Would you? I know I wouldn't.

Then I said....

I do believe what I am saying. But like I said already. There are too many anonymous people on the internet who would screw with that information.

The visious cycle has been started and it can't be stopped.

Then I said ....

Yep. But not worth the effort for little ole me.

Why do people still still cling the idea that anything you put on the internet should be "free speech"?

It's legally the same as walking outside and screaming your message out at the world. If you start posting defamatory/hate speech/whatever, be prepared to defend yourself. No one should expect to be able to hide behind a message board alias and claim free speech.

The message board owners did right to fight the case - and it sounds like the court was right in it's decision (in this particular case). Say something libel, be prepared to defend yourself - no matter where you say it.

It's called being accountable. So many people want to hide behind bullshizzle freedom of speech arguments these days - it's disgusting.

*granted, there are extreme cases where anonymity is necessary (whistle blowers), but that is not the common case.

I read what you said, JAG. I also see that you are unwilling to stand up for what you believe. My argument stands as is.

You have no idea what I believe. I believe you are just trying to be an idiot. Are you at least a little drunk or are you always a jerk?

The only bright side to me is the reduction in internet tough guys and internet studs that deem themselves fit for nothing less than women that are perfect 10's.
