Default The horrible hockey fans of Windsor

Maybe this is a failure of security or maybe it reflects on the character of the city of Windsor.

Just way over the top to threaten a bunch of young ladies with their lives....no matter how the police want to spin it.

Quote:
"When Barrie started losing, we started getting towels thrown at us and like, water bottles and stuff, and just, people being really rude and disrespectful," said Denise Adamson, the coach of the Barrie Colts Dance Crew

"They pushed it to the limit, because we were coming out of the arena after the game and we waited until the fans were mostly gone, but we had one fan that just took it to the next level. He had tied together a bunch of towels like a noose and had threatened to kill us and hang us."

Quote:
Windsor police Sgt. Brett Corey said officers were at the arena and intervened, but such things can be expected at sporting events and the incident is being overblown.

See Sgt. Corey, I disagree that things being thrown at people and death threats are an "expected" part of attending a sporting event.

Assclown.

I remember going to a game in the playoffs in Lethbridge during the lock-out. We Hitmen fans got berated with the filthiest language you could possibly think of - including death threats. Young kids all over the place and these idiots never let up.

I wonder if it was when Barrie started losing, or when Barrie tried to kill Windsor's goalie? You could see people throwing objects at Archibald after he was thrown out for trying to injure the Spitfires' goalie. Sufficed to say, the crowd was very rowdy during that game and the actions of the Colts themselves only inflamed the situation. Massive, massive failure from security to control the situation, it seems.

I expect Sgt. Brett Corey will be getting his wrist slapped this morning. What an absolute tool. Yes, condone threats and the hurling of objects. Stellar police work.

Barrie Colts' Darren Archibald is suspended indefinitely after a Game 3 incident on Sunday where he ran Windsor Spitfires' goalie Phillipp Grubauer.

Windsor's Adam Wallace (inappropriate physical interaction with an opponent) and Barrie's Zac Rinaldo (physical interaction with an official) have also been suspended indefinitely.

In addition, the two teams have been fined $5,000 each for unprofessional off-ice conduct.

I hate to make a sweeping statement, but fans who attend junior games on a regular basis tend to either be families or big-time rednecks....the language and heckling is way worse than at a Flames game and I feel bad for the families who have young kids there.

I seriously doubt they thought their lives were in danger though, they wouldn't be attending game 4 if that was the case.

Windsor is the armpit of Canada. The majority of my extended family lives in the area. You know your town is a dump when the casino is the only thing worth seeing.`

Like is she serious?...sorry, I laughed when I read that quote.

Seriously though that's garbage that these girls can't do their jobs without getting harassed.

More quotes on the issue, from Yahoo
Quote:
Apparently Sgt. Corey has never watched Serena slink around on Gossip Girl, because then he offered this gem:

“I understand supporting the team, in Barrie, but if you dress yourself up in a pair of Daisy Duke shorts and parade yourself in front of 6,700 Windsor Spitfires fans, what do you expect?” the officer told the Barrie Examiner.
Now, don't get me wrong, if I'm drunk at a game I'll probably throw out a catcall or two towards the cheerleaders. But throwing things and threatening to hang from a noose goes too far.

the stupid action of some Windsor fans may take their city out of the running for host of next year Memorial Cup; final decision will be made this week; this can only reflect poorly on Windsor

This is such crap, how about asking someone who was actually at the game! Exaggeration on the part of the girls, they were giving as good as they were getting as far as the language etc. It was equally ridiculous on both sides, but not as bad as they were trying to make it out in the media.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Barrie fans pelting the Spitfires with boxes of Kraft Dinner after the overtime win in game 1.

I think its safe to say Barrie and Windsor are now officially rivals after all that has gone on. And for the cherry...

what a funny situation.

Quote:
Earlier in the week, dad sent out a memo asking teams to refrain from drafting his son -- a pleasant, not uncommon request in this league.

"We hope to take him in the second round," Warren Rychel toldThe Windsor Star.
Quote:
the Spitfires traded down in the second round, sending their 25th pick away for a 38th overall pick.

Kerby Rychel, a 15-year-old winger who notched 49 points in 55 games with the Detroit Belle Tire under-16s this past season, made a steady climb leading up to the draft. He was slated to go late in the first round, or somewhere towards the middle of the second round.

Essentially, by trading down in the second round, the Spitfires figured they'd not only draft Kerby, but do it at a lesser expense.
Warren Rychel thought he could have his cake and eat it to. Should have taken him with their 20th overall pick.
