Default Ever almost won a Darwin award?

So have you ever done or know someone who has just about bit the bullet doing something stupid that may have qualified for a Darwin award?

I'm assuming you have a story to tell as well?

Don't know if this qualifies...but...
There was a time where I was getting onto a train at Victoria Park Stampede Station; i wanted to get to part of the platform with less people. Navigated onto the yellow line of the platform and almost had my head knocked clean off by the train, I could feel the wing mirror brush by my hair as the train zipped by and heard bystanders mutter "that guy almost had his head taken off".

Once was heading to work early in the morning, 4:45ish. Huge snow storm, I think weather was -35 and I got into my car, started it before opening the garage, leaned my head back in a sort of sigh "ughh... I'm exhausted" and I'm pretty sure I fell asleep for a few minutes.

I was about 14 years old and stuck my hand into a coke machine through the top part trying to nab a free drink. one of the buttons to press for a selection was loose so i removed it. I ended up touching some loose wires and woke up on the ground.

A few as a kid:
I used a pair of my mom's fabric scissors to cut through an electrical cord. Burnt the scissors and took a clunk out of a blade.

I have a foggy memory of tossing a screwdriver into a socket.

I swallowed a marble and got it stuck in my windpipe.

Not really a Darwin but as a 14 yr old I was going to cross a busy street with my friends. The near lane stopped and I started to walk across and just happened to stop in time as a cab went whipping by in the second lane. I remember pulling my hips back like a baseball player does when the pitcher throws one inside.

In the last few years my stupid move was biking down the hill by the Calgary Tennis Club. I'd head down the hill, see if traffic was coming and if I saw nothing, whip through the intersection taking a left turn. I'd typically apex the corner. One morning, fairly dark, I saw nothing and as I apexed the corner a car came out from behind a horse trailer parked on the street. To this day I have no idea how I magically corrected in a split second and made it between the front of the trailer and the car. While I might not have been killed it certainly would have left a mark. To the driver of that black civic hatchback I apologize.

Oh yeah. This is really stupid.

I was at work, driving a truck that required diesel fuel, but the fuel tank lid was frozen shut. What did I do? Took out a lighter and tried to heat it up.

I quickly stopped that, but God what a disaster that could have been.

Winning the Darwin award, is kind of an oxymoron isn't it?

I think my closest was when I first got my license and I had bought this POS Olds Cutless that had this split sunroof on top. I was driving with my buddy whippin down the highway and one of the brackets holding the sunroof piece above me gave way and the glass flew off the roof and I turned my head to see if it was going to hit the road behind us still going about 100kph and I drifted into oncoming traffic and a guy had to swerve off the road and ended up in the ditch to avoid a head on collision. My buddy dribbled in his pants he said. The stupid things we do when we are young.

Last week during that snowstorm, I drank a bunch of beers at a pub and stumbled outside to puke. Then I needed to lay down because my head was spinning so bad, so I kind of collapsed in a snowbank.

The problem is, I had already told my friends that I was probably heading home, so when I didn't return they assumed I had left. Well, I was actually passed out in that snowbank for over an hour and a half.

I got up and walked back into the bar, and the entire bar turned around and stared at me. I was soaked to the bone, shaking violently and looking like I was going to die.

I had complete strangers putting their shirts, hoodies and whatever else anyone could find on me, trying to warm me up. 3 hours later I was still shaking badly. A doctor that we were with said it wouldn't have taken much longer being passed out there to kill me.

Wow. That's intense. I had a friend in highschool who had his heart stop from a similar experience, luckily they brought him back with a defib. You should move to Australia like me, where the worst thing that can happen to you when you're passed out is getting raped by rabid kangaroos.

Not really. You can throw a lit match into a bucket of diesel and it will simply go out.

When I was about 15 I was in Nova Scotia on an exchange trip, got drunk with the locals and decided to take a piss. I took 3 steps and someone grabbed me as I had already stepped off of a cliff.

When I was in the army, I decided to exit a helicopter far too early, thankfully I fell 40 feet into a huge snow bank.

I was out at my cousins house shooting rifles by the grain silos. I didn't trust my cousin so I decided to walk behind the silo and come out on the other side which should have been a safer spot to watch from. When I came around the corner he had walked over to see where I had gone, I walked stomach first into the rifle barrel, my cousin didn't have the safety on, lucky for me he had taken his finger out of the trigger guard.

I was showing off for a girl in elementary and decided to hang upside from the monkey bars. While she was watching, I hung upside down on the bar that was still wet from rain early today. I slipped off and fell the 5 or so feet pile driving myself head first onto the gravel pad knocking myself unconcious, busting open my head bleeding gallons of blood. I missed a week and a half from school with a major concussion and the I scared the poor girl half to death.

A sober buddy was driving me home from the bar and we were on the highway when I thought it would be awesome to climb out the window and ride on the roof. Which I did...and it was fun...but I was one slip away from turning into a alcoholic smear...

...really appreciate the fact he didn't slow down/pull over

I've done alot of dumb things, probably due to teething on things painted with lead paint as a child...

One thing I remember is doing a headstand on the very bow of a boat cruising along on Moyie Lake...
