Jasper Hotels

i am looking to go on a bike ride to Jasper, lived in Calgary my whole life but somehow have never been to Jasper?? anyways what is a good hotel there for a reasonable amount of money, dont want to spend a fortune but also dont want to stay in a complete dump either. Thanks

I'm no authority, but I've stayed at the Athabasca and it was alright. Nicely located for drinking adventures, some of the hotels are a bit of a hike. I suppose some of the rooms might be loud due to the pub, but the easy solution is to drink to closing.

We've stayed at the Sawridge Inn a couple times. Rooms were clean and reasonably priced. The buffet breakfast was quite tasty.

It's a little further away from the drinking and main streets but Jasper isn't that big. It's a 2 min drive to the main shops.

IMO, for quality it goes Fairmont > Sawridge > Chateau Jasper. From there its pretty much all same same or worse I don't mind Whistler's Inn, but that was more for convenience.

It was really really nice and right in the heart of "downtown" Jasper so you're within walking distance of restaurants and bars for some unwinding after being on the bike all day. I would definitely recommend this place. Big, modern rooms, clean and reasonably priced, in my opinion.

I used to work in Jasper at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and while it's very nice there, it's a huge amount of cash just for a place to shower and sleep and it's away from the actual town of Jasper itself.

As a local from town I recommend the Approved Accomodations. Residents rent out suites in their homes at better value than most hotels. Banff and Canmore have them as well.

You should consider a B&B. I recommend Robin's Nest. It's near the heart of town and the proprietor is excellent. A couple of very nice rooms upstairs and a common sitting room. Very nice.

Is the best western in Jasper any good? Or is the Sawridge better than the BW?

On the way up I recommend stopping and going on some hikes. It turns (from Calgary) a 4 hour drive into much more but it's worth it. Hike up to the glacier, Valley of the 5 lakes is a nice hike and there a few others. The highway up is beautiful and you see lots of animals on the way, but get out of the car a bunch of times and try some of the hikes. They're very nice.
