judging by what chuckie said, i am pretty sure i know which formation he is talking about. however, is there like screen caps showing which formations are which? that would be super helpful.

I believe it's the one where there is one D man back on the opposite side of the faceoff. Friggin' brutal.

I haven't seen any diagrams or screen captures of the faceoff formations online...

Oh, and aggressive formation in the offensive zone = fail. Worst formation in the game for winning a faceoff - unless you win it forward and forecheck the &$% out of the opposition.
Ya it depends on the skill of the defender...once in awhile I'm able to rush up and sticklift/pokecheck the puck away if they're not paying attention.

If the offensive team wins the faceoff forward, the puck always goes past the defender and to the boards. The RW and C then need to work together. First one to the defender board plays, the second forward in gets the puck. If the defender hasn't gotten rid of it, you'll usually come up with the puck. If the defensive teams wins it back, usually they'll control it.

Merc and I had a couple good games last night (one was a narrow loss, though). Hopefully it continues.I really seem to have success shooting for rebounds, or just shooting it off the boards, off the goalie and in!

Wow, this post is dripping negativity. Look at the bright side, the club still has 237 points! There are a few clubs that can't get above 1?!

Haha our new team of 'regulars' can't seem to get things going anymore is all I'm saying. A .500 record isn't telling of how we can play IMO.

Gooooo Fatas!

I think Human Torch or Jobo can get you on the team, they have admin.

I think the main problem is playing the positions you choose and sticking with it. Wings cover point, center chases and not everyone chase the puck carrier. When the LD pinches the LW/C should cover or the RD should slide over so RW can take RD. It's all in positioning really. We can beat fully boosted teams if our team D is tight.

Or we can make a boost account and share it which is a little extreme. The max is 5 ps3s. If you buy all the +5 boosts that's about $5 a piece. It seems the teams we have trouble with are the ones fully boosted with overall skater rating 85+. If we're all boosted legend cards we can pinch/cover a lot easier and the puck control is easier.

Overall I think we're improving though. Especially cactus jack. And spike probably has the best slapper from the point.

Thanks, Merc. Last night the lag was brutal, I couldn't finish any game. I do feel like I'm improving but I don't have any boosters, never have. Maybe i should get some? I really have few BAP/OTP points too.

Hey Torch, if you're looking for someone who plays their position properly, I can do so for pretty much any spot on the ice (sans goalie).

A lot of the boosts can be earned by playing single player but it's time consuming. If you have cash to burn maybe get some of the +5 boosts. +5 passing would help the most because it not only lets you send good passes but receive them too. I've noticed our passing has been off lately while other teams are going tape to tape.

It's not even just about playing positions on D right. On offense we have to be more creative and patient in working for good plays. We tend to either get the one timer in the slot or just shoot flat out even if it's not there or a better play can be developed. The puck needs to be worked around the zone better and force the defenders to move around and work them out of position to open up a scoring chance. That requires that everyone try to puck handle around and open up space for themselves or others if need be, while at the same time just being smart and make the simple plays.

And positioning is just as important in offensive zone as well. If puck carries know where players are going to be, it makes working the puck around when pressured a lot more easier. The AI goalies aren't that great if you can get shots from working into good scoring spots or screens.

Scoring needs to go up, and that comes from good play development, along with good defence to get the puck on our sticks.

regarding the boosts, many of them can be earned in single player without a whole lot of time invested. many of the BAP related achievements require you to get a ton of points while playing at least 40 games. what you can do is turn the skill down to easy and then sim till the last 5 minutes of the game. with the skill so low you can still get several points a game while only playing the end. you can play several games an hour that way. i had many of the good unlockables within the first week of the game coming out. it is a decent compromise for those that dont have the funds or are morally opposed to paying for the upgrades. i ended up paying for a few of the upgrades that were hard to achieve, but was able to get my guy maxed out for 10 bucks or less.

Sorry I missed you guys last night went out with some buddies and the woman told me people kept bugging her to play hockey when she was playing singstar with her friends LOL.

I will be on tonite as well.

And I agree 100% about the positions. Merc is one of my favorites to play with because I know coming out of the zone he wont be standing beside another forward; but actually be on his side and open(and not at the other teams blue line). If I had a nickel for every time i went to pass out of the zone and both the wingers are on the same side or both wingers are standing out front of our own net I would have a load of nickels.

A few things that I notice when things start going bad:

The pass to the middle move only works when there is a human defenseman there, the computer just gobbles it up.

A defenseman turning back to "setup" when we rush out of the zone always results in a turn over as it gives the other team time to cover us. If this is your plan dump the puck instead it will yield better results.

Rebounds come from the pads, Merc and Spike do this great, they shoot low understanding that a rebound is an easy goal.

The puck moves faster then anyone can skate, making a forward stop at the blue line and wait while the other player skates from his blue line is counter productive.

Yellow tends to be the cause of most goals.

We turn the puck over when pressured heavy yet when we play we all try to intercept the pass instead of trying to attack the puck carrier.

We need to learn how to do the glitch goals so when we run into those crap teams we can do it right back. I suck too bad for this to be me, i prefer to get hit walking into the zone
