This is funny to me. As I clicked on this thread I notice the above from Chrome:

Apparently an iPad Jailbreak will be released tomorrow, for those who are interested.
I think the dev (comex) is going to make sure it works on the 3g model as well.

I've found myself in a few situations already where I would have liked the 3G version. While wifi is pretty prevalent in the city, most of the times it has a password.
If 3G plans can be shared I'd consider making the switch to a 3G iPad. Though I would probably wait until the next generation one.

Has Rogers even acknowledged the advent of the iPad, never mind announced any data buckets for it?

It will be interesting to see what the 3G prices are, I would love to have a 3G model but I can't imagine pricing is going to be reasonable.

There's a rumour around that Rogers might have shared data plans. If they do, and the other carriers follow suit, I can definitely see getting a 3G version.

Are you new to Canada? A delay like this is actually pretty good by Canadian standards, and is probably a rush job for them. So expect whatever service is delivered to be overpriced and buggy.

I don't get what you mean... Are you suggesting that 5-6 months to work out data pricing for it is not enough time? The iPad with 3G was announced in January. There had to be discussions with carriers prior to that.
It's not a "rush job." They're waiting until the last minute so that they don't have to worry about getting price beat by Belus.

Probably just releasing pricing plans at the same time the iPads come out.
Do we know for sure that Canada is getting the 3G version at the same time as the WifFi version, it will it be delayed a bit?

Also, I had no idea Apple is advertising 9 hours of battery life for 3g web browsing, compared to 10 hours on wifi - considering their published numbers have been accurate so far, that bodes really well for the 3g version’s battery life.

I think I bolded the key point. It's how you'll use it. The first iPad I saw belonged to a guy that described it as his "evening device". He watched tv in bed on it, comics etc. He didn't like the idea of taking it around town with him. KTrain on the other hand uses it more as I would, it goes with him to work and when he's running around town.
The first guy has no use for 3g, whereas I am having a hard time imagining myself being able to go without. We took in the iPhone DemoCamp last week and while the lounge had wifi it was too much of a chore to figure out the password (nobody seemed to know it), and if we did get on it was too overloaded to use properly. There is a certain ease of use when you have 3g. Sure you might end up paying out the ass for it, but for a turbo-loser like me, I might almost be willing to change something in my lifestyle to save $20/month.
If Rogers could let me bundle my data package I'd be all over it. I believe the rumor only came out because there was a Rogers questionnaire going out to some customers on whether the feature would be of interest to them.

We don't really know the exact plan. I believe details and pre-order options (i hope) come out on May 10th. I think Fanin80 might be right ... with 3 carriers with the iPhone there could be competition with the iPad as well, so they may release pricing very close to the launch. My guess is the "late May" announcement from Rogers is just them covering their asses and giving a vague time frame.

The annoying bit is that I have the chance to pick one up next week, and I still can't decide between WiFi and 3G. Seeing the data prices would be a hell of a way to help me decide...

To be quite honest I'd get the 3G from the sounds of it.

I get what you're puttin down... but chances are I'll just be replacing this with the new one a year from now. The smart voice is saying to get the 3G then, since it will be a better device, plans will be hammered out, etc etc.

You should buy the 3g, and if you don't like the data prices I'll buy it off you.

Has there been any mention of hardware differences between the 3G and WiFi (besides the obvious one, of course)?
In other words, if I were to buy the 3G one and find out that Rogers wants 27 million dollars for 1GB of data, would there be anything that would make me want to keep it vs selling it and buying a WiFi?

The GPS (or assisted GPS) I believe is the biggest thing. I can't confirm whether it'll be able to revert to standard gps if the data isn't present. My guess is no, but I have no idea.

The WiFi one doesn't have GPS, so that's a pretty big thing to me. For that alone I'd probably get the 3G version. Though I don't know if you can use the GPS without a data plan in apps that don't need streaming.

don't believe there are any differences, however should find out today or tomorrow for sure, as the first batch of 3g's are arriving at people's households
