Default Skaha Lake body ID'd

I don't know if any of you have been following this. Anyway, the body found in the car has been identified as a woman missing since 1972. Anyone not following...a car was found in Skaha Lake last summer. It was brought up last weekend and a body was found in it. It was believed to be a 1964 Chrysler and police estimated it had been in the water for 30 -40 years. Interesting story. Hopefully more info will come out as to who it was, etc.

Yup...pretty nasty.

On the other hand I'm sure her family appreciates the closure this has brought. They likely conceded many years ago that she was abducted and murdered. At least now they know it wasn't at the hands of some psycho.

Considering I drive by Skaha Lake once a week or so, I have been following this a bit. Women missing since 1972...car in lake for 30 years. What happened in the 8 years in between?

She'd be 58ish so theres a good chance her folks went to the grave never knowing what happened.

I figured the cop was just crappy at math.

^^ Wasn't the 30 years thing just an estimate the cops threw out there?

I found this pretty interesting when I first heard about it the other day and started digging up stuff. Apparently there is a lot of friends and family still around that have been crossing their fingers hoping it's her since this news broke.

This is actually the first I've heard of this stuff. Pretty crazy.

Going from this article alone, what I don't understand is why it took them so long to remove the vehicle from the water. I would think that they would find the vehicle and begin working on getting it removed immediately; not wait a year and for "earth day" to do so.

Also is there any idea floating about how she got in the water? I'm not familiar with this lake, so I assume the road runs along the lake and she alone simply crashed.

^Sounds like the police just weren't interested in a rusted out car hulk without any reason to be. They only got interested after the remains were found. Apparently the car was found by the dive group....and from what I gather, it was just brought up more or less for the adventure. ( or maybe cleaning up the lake..I dunno)

Speculation so far is she simply went off the road ...probably slid off in bad weather. The road hugs the shore pretty close to the lake there.

Below the viewpoint is where it was supposed to have been found. See the google map pic here.

They were cleaning debris out of the lake and the took the opportunity to remove the car. Apparently it isn't the only car in the lake.

^ Yup, I don't doubt that.

I used to live on a large lake in BC. There were a lot of vehicles in the water. Rumor has it back in the day it was a routine way to dispose of an old vehicle you had no use for. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

This is stupid. Do you know how many organisms routinely died in the ocean long before humans were in the picture?

Yeah, in the town I used to live in, people would drive their old beaters out on to the ice in the spring and place bets for what day it would fall through. I also heard of people doing that just to report them stolen.

It is speculated that the drug kingpins in the Okanagan have sent a number of people "swimming with the fishes".

As someone that just got into scuba diving recently, I can only imagine how scary it would to be go underwater and see a car, let alone one that had remains in it once you looked inside. You just wouldn't expect it and immediately I'd probably think of horrible scenarios that would have occured to someone. I realize this is a lake and not nearly as deep compared to the ocean obviously, but it still would freak me out a little.
