I am aware of the outcomes of WW2, I am unaware of the outcomes of these characters. Just use spoiler font like every other TV show thread does.

Excellent episode last night. I don't think words can describe the horrors these men faced on Peleliu. How could men function in society after an experience like that?

Agreed, most powerful episode of the series...and it seemed really long too compared to last week.

Was that "Chuckler" getting carted out on a stretcher smoking a cig? Sledgehammer stops to see if he is ok.

It was the dude was standing next to Leckie when he got put into intelligence or whatever after he got hammered and pulled his gun on an officer. Can't remember his name though.

^ according to IMDB... chuckles last episode was the last one. I think it was done to show that you never really know what happens to some people during war.

You really get the feeling episodes are pretty heavily edited, its like they will release directors cuts DVDs when the series is out on bluray/dvd.

At least I'm hoping, because so many of the episodes feel rushed and incomplete.

I agree. By the time the interviews at the start, the recap of the previous week and the Title credits are done we're left with like 42 minutes of episode. It's pretty disappointing for an epic show.

I haven't read any of the books the series was based on yet - but I intend to after.

This series is great. Haven't commented here much, but It's no BoB that's for sure.

39 Min. into ep. 6 and I just had to pause and comment on the character of "Sledge Hammer".

The amount of scenes with Sledge in a solitary moment of thought has reached an absurd number, Also the constant shots of him just looking thoughful and expressionless is just irritating now.

I get what the director is trying to convey, but honestly, these scenes and shots are just over the top and have lost their effect simply by being over used.

Otherwise Awesome episode!

Yeah that was Chuckler, that's the guy I was asking about on here last week, trying to find out what happened to him. I couldn't remember him getting injured.

Just watched it last night, great episode, and as mentioned above, very powerful. I can't even imagine the pain and stress you'd go through, taking on an enemy on a remote island who'd rather die than be captured. It's not surprising a lot of guys cracked. I think the episodes have really stepped it up the past 3 weeks or so, and at least for me anyways, I attribute a lot of that to the main character being switched from Leckey to Sledgehammer.

Leckey started growing on me near the end, but over-all I had a tough time relating to him, and I didn't find him overly likeable. I just prefer the Sledgehammer character much more, he doesn't have that "Hollywood"ish thing going on like I find most of these characters do. He reminds me more of a BoB character, I find him easier to put yourself in his shoes. He's just a normal, young, intelligent kid who's been completely overwhelmed by what he's seen. I also like how they've shown his gradual metamorphosis from green kid to efficient soldier. He's losing the light in his eyes, and seems to be becoming more hollow inside, just as his dad worried about. I think it really helps demonstrate how war not only affects you physically, but psychologically. Can't wait for the final 3 weeks, man this series is just flying by.

We have to stop comparing this series to Band of Brothers.

Just look at the tittles please, Band of Brothers is based off of the bond between soldiers in Easy company, thus the tittle Band of Brothers.

The Pacific is based off of the Marines experiences in the Pacific, thus the tittle The Pacific.

They are not the same shows, they are not set up even remotely close, the only similarities are the director and time period.

So please, stop saying "It's no BOB!" That is like saying "The Sky is blue."

Well thanks, thanks for that.

I think considering the two executive producers are the same it's completely reasonable to compare the quality of their two pieces of work.

No one is saying "It's no BoB" because of the subject of the story, they're saying it's no BoB because of the quality in which the story is being presented.

Works get compared to each other all the time, to say "we shouldn't compare this to BoB" when it's the same creative team doing something they did in the SAME FORMAT 9 years ago is silly.

Going from memory, I think The Pacific is just as good as Band of Brothers. But I havent seen Band of Brothers since it originally aired. I'll have to watch it again sometime.

I'll also have to read the books written by the two main characters.

I think it's impossible to not compare the two - but also incredibly unfair to do so.

The fact that BOB set the standard for a WW2 story really set up the Pacific to do nothing but fail on expectations.

I'm really enjoying it - but like BOB I'm always left moved by the veteren interviews before the episode. It's pretty sobering listening to these men recount experiences which occurred 60 years ago and still be fighting back the tears. I know people who have lost children who aren't as scarred.
